Geriatric Medicine Department (Health Care Department)

The Department of Geriatrics of the Affiliated Provincial Hospital of Shandong First Medical University, formerly known as the Department of Health Care, was established in 1976. After generations of inheritance and unremitting efforts, it has now become a leading unit in the development of geriatric medicine in the province, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and health care. It is a key clinical specialty in Shandong Province and the quality control center of geriatric medicine in Shandong Province. As a unit affiliated with the manufacturing center, it is responsible for the province's geriatric medical quality control and clinical research leadership, and leads the province's formulation of geriatric disease diagnosis and treatment norms and standards. As the first batch of geriatric medicine specialist training bases in the country and the only national geriatric specialist nurse training base in the province, it continues to provide high-quality professional talents for geriatric medicine in the province.

There is an independent geriatric medicine department building in the central campus and the Olympic Sports Campus of the hospital, with a total area of ​​about 42,000 m2, and 235 open beds in the department, equipped with advanced medical equipment. The subspecialties are complete and the ward structure is reasonable, including geriatric cardiovascular department, geriatric respiratory department, geriatric neurology department, geriatric endocrinology department, geriatric gastroenterology department, geriatric hematology oncology department, geriatric rehabilitation department, geriatric surgery, nutrition department, etc. There are currently 112 doctors, 240 nurses, 4 doctoral supervisors, and 17 master supervisors. Responsible for teaching compulsory courses and undergraduate elective courses for international students and geriatric medicine graduate/doctoral students of Shandong First Medical University, as well as teaching tasks for specialist training physicians, resident training physicians, and advanced training physicians.

Breakthrough progress has also been made in scientific research and innovation. In the past five years, he has presided over 1 sub-project of the National Ministry of Science and Technology's key R&D plan, 6 National Natural Science Foundation general projects, and 8 National Youth Fund projects, with a total of 9.43 million scientific research funds. He has published a total of 56 SCI papers, 15 papers with Q1 area IF greater than 5 points, 1 of which was published in the Nature sub-journal, IF38.12, and 6 Chinese papers. He took the lead and co-authored the "Consensus on Comprehensive Management of Rational Medication Evaluation and Intervention in the Elderly" (2024), "Consensus on the Construction and Management of Geriatric Medicine in Shandong Province" (2025), and participated in the compilation of the "Chinese Expert Consensus on the Management of Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in Elderly Patients" (2023).
