Central Campus Pediatric General Surgery Ward
The Department of Pediatric General Surgery at Shandong Provincial Hospital was established in 1995. Its subspecialties include pediatric hepatobiliary surgery, pediatric anorectal surgery and neonatal surgery, and it has 24 open beds. The department has more than 20 medical and nursing staff, including four chief physicians, three associate chief physicians, three attending physicians and three master’s supervisors. Several physicians have trained in the United States, Germany, Japan and Beijing.
According to the hospital, its pediatric general surgeons performed a successful Kasai procedure for biliary atresia and colon replacement of the esophagus in the 1970s, and the country’s first pediatric liver transplant in the 1980s. It introduced pediatric minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in the province in 1998 and minimally invasive correction of pectus excavatum in 2004, and began ultra-minimally invasive correction in 2023. It now performs almost all level-IV endoscopic procedures in pediatric general and neonatal surgery and has supported development at neighboring hospitals. The team conducts basic and clinical research on pediatric anorectal and esophageal function, Hirschsprung disease, biliary atresia, and solid thoracic and abdominal tumors, and undertakes several provincial research projects. The hospital describes its research and care for biliary atresia, Hirschsprung disease and pectus excavatum as leading in the province and advanced nationally.
