Thoracic Surgery

The Thoracic Surgery Department of Shandong Provincial Hospital is a key clinical specialty in Shandong Province and a standardized training base for thoracic surgeons and thoracoscopic surgeons of the National Health Commission. The department focuses on improving the diagnosis and treatment of common chest diseases and difficult and critical diseases. It has long been at the domestic leading level in the fields of accurate diagnosis and treatment of early lung cancer, extended resection of locally advanced lung cancer, minimally invasive surgical treatment of esophageal cancer/cardia cancer, lung transplantation, chest wall surgery, and diagnosis and treatment of difficult mediastinal diseases.

The department consists of 4 wards, including the first ward (lung and chest wall ward) and the second ward (lung and lung transplant ward) in the central hospital, and the first ward (lung and mediastinal ward) and second ward (extrathoracic esophageal surgery ward) in the Olympic Sports Hospital. The talent echelon is complete, with 54 doctors currently, including 17 chief physicians, 18 deputy chief physicians, 5 doctoral supervisors, and 29 postgraduate supervisors. Currently, there are 210 open beds, with an annual outpatient volume of more than 80,000 and an annual operation volume of nearly 10,000. The proportion of minimally invasive surgeries is over 90%, and the proportion of level 4 surgeries is over 95%. The number of surgeries ranks first in the province and among the top ten in the country.

The department has strong teaching and scientific research capabilities. It is responsible for the teaching and training of thoracic surgery. It trains more than 100 students every year. It is a doctoral program, master's program and postdoctoral mobile station. In the past ten years, it has trained more than 30 doctors and more than 100 masters. In the past three years, it has undertaken more than 20 national and provincial scientific research projects, published more than 70 SCI papers, and won 18 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. The Thoracic Surgery Department of Shandong Provincial Hospital continues to explore and innovate in discipline construction, and has established a new pattern of high-level construction and rapid development in medical care, teaching, scientific research and other aspects.

Professor Zhang Lin, head of the department, chief physician, doctor of surgery, postdoctoral fellow in oncology. He is currently the deputy director of general surgery, director of thoracic surgery, and director of thoracic esophageal surgery of the Provincial Hospital, director of the Lung Tumor Center of Shandong Provincial Hospital, and chief expert of esophageal cancer of Shandong Provincial Hospital. He has been awarded the honorary titles of Top Ten Provincial Medical Craftsmen, Top Ten Provincial Medical Young Doctors, Shandong Provincial Employee Moral Model Model, Shandong Provincial Enriching People and Xinglu Labor Medal, and Shandong Provincial Health Commission Outstanding Communist Party Member. Founded the Shandong Provincial Medical Union Model Worker High-Skilled Talent Innovation Studio, studied at Harvard Medical School, and deeply cultivated the field of thoracic tumor diagnosis and treatment. Focusing on comprehensive treatment based on minimally invasive surgery, he was the first in China to carry out minimally invasive treatment of pulmonary nodules, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and cardia cancer, and his technical level is in a leading position in the country. He concurrently serves as a director of the Chinese branch of the International Association for Esophageal Diseases, a member of the Cancer Nutritional Support Group of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, a standing committee member of the Esophageal Cancer Rehabilitation Committee of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, and serves as the deputy director of the Thoracic Surgery Branch of the Shandong Provincial Medical Association and the deputy director of the Thoracic Surgery Branch of the Shandong Provincial Medical Doctors Association. Member, deputy director of the Minimally Invasive Branch of the Shandong Provincial Medical Association, deputy director of the Esophageal Cancer Branch of the Shandong Clinical Oncology Society, deputy director of the Thoracic Surgery Professional Committee of the Shandong Pain Association, and member of the Laparoscopic Thoracic Surgery Professional Committee of the Shandong Medical Doctors Association.
