General Practice
Since 2014 the hospital has provided standardized general-practice residency training in Shandong as one of China's first national training bases. Its General Medicine Department was formally established in 2016 to offer comprehensive, continuous care for chronic and common diseases. Its three subspecialty directions are difficult internal medicine cases, refractory constipation and unexplained fever. It operates a multidisciplinary platform for refractory constipation, an online clinic supporting rural patients and remote consultations.
The department occupies 1,300 square metres, with 20 open beds, bedside ECG monitors, cardiac defibrillators and other equipment. It reports over 5,000 outpatient visits and over 900 inpatient admissions and discharges annually, and four new clinical techniques in recent years. Its physicians include one chief, three associate chief, two attending and one resident physician; three have doctorates and four master's degrees.
Director Zhong Xia is a chief physician and doctoral supervisor and heads general medicine at Shandong First Medical University. The hospital reports Zhong Xia leads one national and several provincial or municipal grants and has published more than ten SCI papers. The department leads or undertakes two National Natural Science Foundation projects and has published more than 20 SCI papers.
The department is a master's and doctoral training site of Shandong First Medical University and undertakes quality control and examination work for Shandong's standardized residency completion assessment. It teaches general medical students and graduates, trains general-practice residents and faculty, and has trained professionals for hospitals at the same and lower levels. It aims to expand its clinical and research capacity, regional reach and training of general medicine leaders.
