It has 11 doctors, five with senior and six with intermediate titles; all hold doctorates and five have postdoctoral experience.
Led by Director Zhou Xu and guided by senior hepatobiliary and pancreatic specialists including Professor Lu Jun, the department treats common, frequent and complex liver, biliary and pancreatic surgical diseases. It has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant liver and pancreatic tumors, neuroendocrine tumors and complex biliary disease.
The department routinely performs complex robot-assisted and laparoscopic liver surgery, radical surgery for hilar cholangiocarcinoma, pancreaticoduodenectomy and precise organ-function-preserving pancreatic surgery. The hospital describes the technical indicators as advanced nationally and its robotic hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery as leading within the province. In recent years it reports treating over 2,000 patient admissions and performing nearly 1,000 operations per year on average; over 90% are minimally invasive and 100% are grade III or IV, including over 90% grade IV.
Research focuses on liver, pancreatic and biliary cancers and neuroendocrine tumors. The department has undertaken over 30 projects, including National and Shandong Natural Science Foundation grants, and published more than 100 SCI-indexed papers in journals including Hepatology and Journal of Controlled Release. The department reports qualification to serve as independent principal investigator for registration clinical studies, conducts prospective and real-world studies and participates in trials of neoadjuvant, conversion and postoperative adjuvant treatment.
The hospital describes patient-centered, individualized management for hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies through a multidisciplinary team combining precise minimally invasive surgery with interventional treatment, ablation, targeted drugs and immunotherapy, and reports improved survival benefits. It also practices enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), reporting reduced postoperative suffering, shorter stays, lower costs and improved patient experience and long-term outcomes.
