Medical Genetics Department

The Department of Medical Genetics is one of the first centers in Shandong Province to obtain authorization to provide technical prenatal diagnosis services throughout pregnancy, and one of the pilot units in the first batch approved by the Medical Administration and Hospital Administration Bureau of the National Health and Family Planning Commission for the clinical application of high-throughput sequencing technology (specialty in genetic disease diagnosis).

It was the first in the province to routinely carry out prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis of fetal chromosomal diseases and single-gene diseases throughout pregnancy, and has continued to promote the clinical application of new prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis technologies, establishing a three-level birth-defect prevention and control system covering the entire cycle of preconception, prenatal care, and the newborn period. In 2020, it was designated by the Shandong Provincial Health Commission as a provincial prenatal diagnosis center, a collaborating unit of the birth-defect prevention and control talent training base, and the Shandong Province “Specialized Further Training in Prenatal Diagnosis” training base. On average, approximately 30 or more prenatal diagnosis professionals from within and outside the province come each year for further study and training, and the department enjoys a high profile in the field.
