Sleep Medicine Center
The Sleep Medicine Center of Shandong Provincial Hospital was established on April 26, 2014. It is a comprehensive sleep-disorder diagnosis and treatment platform integrating clinical care, research, and education, with participation from multiple disciplines, including neurology and neurosurgery, otolaryngology, respiratory medicine, pediatrics, traditional Chinese medicine, and endocrinology. It has three major modules: inpatient wards, outpatient services, and testing and assessment, and can provide distance teaching, ward rounds, and video conferences.
The overall design of the Sleep Center reflects warmth, comfort, standardization, and elegance. It aims to highlight the development goals of Shandong Provincial Hospital—“wholehearted dedication and great love, wisdom and openness, a good reputation and happiness”—as well as the profound significance of the sleep medicine discipline.
The Center has currently completed the assembly, commissioning, operation, and staff training for nearly 20 instruments, including polysomnography systems, portable sleep monitors, and video EEG monitors. At present, its hardware facilities are at a leading level domestically.
The Sleep Center has nationally leading polysomnographic respiratory monitoring equipment, which can provide definitive diagnoses for disorders such as snoring, sleep apnea, and parasomnias, and provide corresponding treatment. In addition to medication, patients with sleep disorders can receive comprehensive treatments, such as music relaxation therapy and a brain-function fluctuation mapping instrument combined with ultra-low-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation. Patients with epilepsy can undergo long-term video EEG monitoring to assist in the diagnosis and localization of epilepsy and in surgical procedures.
Under the leadership of Chief Physicians Liu Zhenhua and Yue Zhiyong, the Sleep Medicine Center has continued to develop and now has 5 physicians, who respectively hold master’s and doctoral degrees in neurology, sleep medicine, and otolaryngology. 6 specialized nurses also come from otolaryngology, emergency medicine, and neurology.
