Thyroid Surgery
Distinctive departmental diagnostic and treatment services Minimally invasive weight-loss and glucose-lowering surgery: Our department began performing weight-loss surgery in the late 1980s and was the first hospital in China to perform weight-loss surgery. It has now formed a multidisciplinary weight-management team together with the Departments of Endocrinology, Otolaryngology, Nutrition, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, providing individualized treatment for patients with different degrees of obesity. We now routinely perform all types of weight-loss and diabetes surgeries, with a cumulative total of nearly 1,000 cases. Endoscopic thyroid surgery: Our department first began performing endoscopic thyroid surgery in 2015 (trans-breast approach), and was the earliest hospital in Shaanxi Province to perform endoscopic thyroid surgery. Subsequently, transoral thyroid surgery was introduced in 2017, and endoscopic transaxillary thyroid surgery was introduced in 2020. More than 700 cases of various types of endoscopic thyroid surgery are now performed annually, including surgery for various benign and malignant thyroid and parathyroid diseases, as well as lateral lymph node dissection for thyroid cancer. We are the hospital in Shaanxi Province performing the largest number of endoscopic thyroid surgeries. Thyroid radiofrequency ablation: Thyroid radiofrequency ablation refers to, under real-time ultrasound guidance and monitoring, percutaneously inserting a fine needle with a heated tip into a thyroid nodule and using high-temperature heating to cause coagulative necrosis of the lesion tissue, thereby achieving the goal of minimally invasive local inactivation of the lesion. Our department first began performing thyroid radiofrequency ablation in 2019 and was one of the earliest hospitals in Shaanxi Province to perform this technology. At present, several hundred cases of various radiofrequency ablation procedures are routinely performed annually.
