Burn and Plastic Surgery Department
Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine
“The Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at Ruijin Hospital” is the Shanghai Burn Emergency Center. As a leading burn treatment center in China, it treats patients every day for burns caused by hot liquids and hot oil and for low-temperature burns, as well as mass casualties from catastrophic sudden explosions and fire accidents. As an extension of burn care, and building on many years of clinical and basic research, we have developed deep expertise in wound repair and scar treatment, including chronic wounds associated with diabetes, venous ulcers, and pressure ulcers; postoperative wounds following surgery for various benign and malignant tumors, as well as wounds caused by radiotherapy or chemotherapy; management of various complex, difficult-to-heal wounds caused by endocrine or immune-system diseases; and comprehensive treatment of all types of scars. Almost all problems related to skin wounds and scars can be treated well here. The department sees an average of approximately 300 patient visits per day. Led by the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at Ruijin Hospital, the Ruijin Burn Specialty Medical Consortium, comprising more than 30 institutions from 14 provinces and municipalities nationwide, strives to extend Ruijin’s high-quality medical resources to surrounding provinces and cities, gradually establish a “major burns” treatment model in the Yangtze River Delta region, and jointly build a strong barrier for urban public safety.
