Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine
Ruijin Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is one of the hospital’s earliest-established departments. The main campus and Jiading Campus currently have a total of 110 beds, with 4 chief physicians and 14 deputy chief physicians. The Gynecology Division has developed distinctive strengths in minimally invasive laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery (including robotic surgery), multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of difficult gynecological diseases and malignant tumors, and life-cycle management of reproductive endocrine diseases. It is among the first batch of Level IV endoscopic surgery training bases approved by the National Health Commission, and is equipped with advanced 3D endoscopes, fluorescence endoscopes, robots and other equipment; more than 3,000 Level III and IV surgeries are performed annually. Ruijin Obstetrics is Shanghai’s Critical Maternal Rescue Center. Drawing on the hospital’s strong capabilities, it has established two support groups for multidisciplinary prevention and multidisciplinary rescue, forming a complete three-dimensional critical maternal rescue system from joint outpatient intervention to collaborative ward rescue. As Shanghai’s Prenatal Diagnosis Center, it also provides a full range of prenatal screening and diagnostic technologies, as well as painless labor and postpartum pelvic-floor rehabilitation, comprehensively safeguarding maternal and infant safety. The discipline leader, Director Feng Weiwei, is a doctoral supervisor and serves as a committee member of the Gynecologic Oncology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and of the Gynecology Committee of its Endoscopy Branch, as well as deputy chair of the Gynecologic Oncology Committee of the Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association. In 2017, she received the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission’s award for Research-Oriented Physician under the Plateau and Peak Talent Program; in 2021, she received the Ministry of Education’s award for a Curriculum Ideological and Political Team and Teaching Master. She is highly proficient in the precise diagnosis, surgery and comprehensive management of gynecological malignancies (ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancers). Over the past five years, she has led the department in obtaining 10 national, provincial and municipal research grants and publishing 75 high-quality papers. Among them, a 2022 paper on diagnosing ovarian malignancies using a deep-learning algorithm based on ultrasound images was published in Radiology, a leading journal in the imaging field, demonstrating the high international recognition of Chinese scholars’ research in ultrasound diagnosis of ovarian tumors and showing that Ruijin Gynecology’s capability in treating ovarian tumors has reached an advanced level nationally.
