East Campus Cardiology Department 2
The Second Department of Cardiology of the East Campus is the earliest independent cardiac pacing and electrophysiology specialty in the Jiaodong region and the only "China Atrial Fibrillation Center Demonstration Base" in the Qingdao area; it has also been granted titles including "National Atrial Fibrillation Center Center of Excellence," "China Cardiogenic Stroke Prevention and Treatment Center," "Green (Radiation-free) Electrophysiology Center," "Shandong Cardiomyopathy Alliance," "first-batch construction launch unit of the China Cardiomyopathy Diagnosis and Treatment Collaboration Network," and "deputy-chair unit of the Qingdao Cardiomyopathy Alliance." It has 33 beds, with 3 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, and 5 attending physicians; 90% of the physicians hold doctoral degrees.
Scope of diagnosis and treatment: arrhythmias, coronary heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases.
1. Comprehensive treatment of atrial fibrillation At the leading level in the region; currently the only China Atrial Fibrillation Center Demonstration Base locally, excelling in AF radiofrequency ablation, pulsed-field ablation, alcohol ablation, left atrial appendage occlusion and other techniques, with high capability in curing atrial fibrillation and preventing AF-related cerebral embolism. It pioneered pulsed-field ablation in the Qingdao area, reducing ablation complications and improving ablation efficiency.
2. Radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmias Routine endocardial and epicardial radiofrequency ablation is performed for supraventricular tachycardia, atrial tachycardia, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia and other arrhythmias, featuring minimally invasive, radical treatment of arrhythmias. Radiation-free "green" ablation is offered, completely avoiding X-ray injury when treating arrhythmias in pregnant women and children.
3. Cardiac pacing techniques Leadless pacing (capsule pacemakers) and left bundle branch area pacing were pioneered in the Qingdao area. Left bundle branch pacing has quasi-physiological pacing advantages, avoiding some of the adverse effects brought by previous conventional pacing techniques, and represents the current direction of pacing development. In addition, the department has a high level of expertise in cardiac resynchronization therapy for heart failure (CRT, CRT-D), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), cardiac contractility modulation (CCM) and implantable cardiac monitoring (Holter).
4. Closure of patent foramen ovale and other congenital heart defects Some patients with refractory migraine and paradoxical cerebral embolism have a patent foramen ovale as the cause; closure of the patent foramen ovale can cure such diseases. Closure for atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus and other congenital heart diseases is routinely performed, and biodegradable patent foramen ovale occlusion was pioneered in the Qingdao area.
5. Other interventional techniques Radiofrequency ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy was pioneered in the Qingdao area. Right heart catheterization for pulmonary hypertension and heart failure is routinely performed.
6. Noninvasive diagnosis and treatment of heart disease Noninvasive screening and diagnosis of arrhythmias, esophageal atrial pacing for diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias, and comprehensive management after pacemaker implantation; rich experience in noninvasive diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of coronary heart disease, hypertension, heart failure and other diseases. The head-up tilt test is routinely performed, with distinctive features in diagnosing and treating syncope of unknown cause.
7. The department has an MDT team for complex and difficult cardiomyopathies and rare diseases, routinely applying ultrasound myocardial strain imaging, cardiac MRI T1 and T2 mapping, dynamic SPECT myocardial perfusion imaging and endomyocardial biopsy to achieve precise diagnosis and treatment of difficult cardiomyopathies and rare diseases, with unique experience in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, inflammatory cardiomyopathy, restrictive cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia-related cardiomyopathy, mixed cardiomyopathies and metabolic cardiomyopathies — especially Fabry disease, cardiac amyloidosis — as well as other diseases with myocardial involvement and specific myocardial injury.
In recent years, the department has led multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and the provincial Natural Science Foundation, and has trained more than 10 master's students and 10 in-service doctoral students.
