The Cardiac Center of Qingdao Municipal Hospital was established in 2006 and was designated a key discipline in Qingdao’s health sector in 2008. The Cardiac Center currently has 32 physicians, including 3 chief physicians, 11 associate chief physicians, 14 attending physicians, and 5 resident physicians. There are 10 doctors of medicine and 22 master’s degree holders in cardiology, 5 master’s supervisors, and 36 nurses. The department has a total of 120 beds, including 3 intensive care units (ICUs), as well as outpatient clinics, functional examination rooms, and other facilities.

I. Cardiac Surgery:

(3) Cardiac Surgery Anesthesia and Operating Group

II. Cardiology:

(1) Interventional treatment specialties: Coronary Artery Group, Congenital Heart Disease Group, Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Group, and Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) and Ultrasonography Group

(2) Non-interventional treatment specialty: Medical Treatment Group

At present, the Cardiac Center’s main clinical and basic research directions include cardiac electrophysiology, cardiac molecular biology, interventional cardiology and heart failure, and surgical treatment of adult heart disease. The Cardiology Department of the Cardiac Center currently performs more than 1,000 interventional procedures annually, while the Cardiac Surgery Department performs more than 300 cardiac operations annually. The center’s cardiac interventional treatments and pacemaker implantation, minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement and valvuloplasty for valvular disease in older adults, surgical treatment of acute aortic dissection, hybrid procedures, and other services have reached an advanced level nationally and are aligned with international advanced standards.

The Cardiac Center has strong medical and research capabilities. It is currently a National Clinical Pharmacology Base and a joint training site for master’s students of Qingdao University Medical College and Taian Medical College. In terms of teaching, it undertakes clinical internships and teaching for interns, visiting students, advanced trainees, and international students from three medical colleges, and enrolls a certain number of postgraduate students each year. Over the past five years, 12 new technologies and services have been developed; more than 100 papers have been published in nationally indexed statistical-source journals; 2 provincial science and technology awards and 4 municipal science and technology achievement awards have been received; and 6 projects funded by Shandong Province and Qingdao Municipality are currently in progress. Over the past five years, 6 physicians from the Cardiac Center have gone to the United States, Germany, and other countries for advanced study and training. The center currently maintains good technical cooperation with several renowned universities in France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and other countries.
