Main Campus Emergency Department
The Emergency Department of our main hospital is a key clinical specialty in Shandong Province. Established in 1984, it has 50 emergency ward beds, 7 intensive care beds, 35 observation beds, and 3 resuscitation rooms. The department currently has 23 physicians and 52 nurses, including 3 associate chief physicians and 11 attending physicians; 8 charge nurses and 22 nurses. Among them, 10 hold master's degrees, and there are also 9 rotating physicians. The department is equipped with 2 ventilators, 30 ECG and blood pressure monitors, 1 blood gas analyzer, and other diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
The department mainly treats patients with cardiopulmonary arrest, acute coronary syndrome, severe arrhythmias, various poisonings, shock, heart failure, respiratory failure, stroke, gastrointestinal bleeding, hemoptysis, heatstroke, electric shock, drowning, epilepsy, acute abdomen, trauma, and other conditions. Point-of-care rapid testing technology has been preliminarily established; the green-channel emergency treatment process for acute myocardial infarction has been optimized; and considerable experience has been accumulated in the coordinated treatment of massive hemoptysis and massive gastrointestinal bleeding, as well as in the treatment of critically ill elderly patients.
The leaders and key personnel in each research area participate in important domestic academic conferences more than twice a year. Each year, 1–2 young attending physicians are selected for further study and advanced training, continuously improving the professional capabilities and competence of young physicians, and further strengthening the development of the discipline’s talent structure and the reserve of potential personnel. The department participates in 3 international multicenter research projects. It undertakes standardized training for resident physicians, general practitioner training, and the teaching of undergraduate interns.
The Emergency Department is responsible for the treatment of critically ill and severely ill patients, as well as the rescue of patients involved in unexpected emergencies; over the years, all medical and nursing staff have taken “compassion and quality” as their service mission, “life first, emergency treatment” as their guiding principle, “seize time and save lives” as their service philosophy, and “the green channel for life” as the department brand. Through strict management and a commitment to progress, the department has extensive experience in the rescue of emergency, critical, and severe cases, as well as major complex trauma. Since 2006, the department has implemented an emergency care model providing seamless coordination between prehospital and in-hospital care; strengthened the triage management of emergency patients and preliminarily implemented an assessment system for critically ill emergency patients; standardized and improved dozens of emergency treatment procedures; implemented a daily rounds system conducted by the department director and head nurse; strengthened medical–nursing collaboration and developed a new “parallel–complementary” medical–nursing relationship; implemented a system for making the department director’s telephone number publicly available; introduced a point-of-care rapid testing system; and completed the Emergency Department Discipline Development and Department Management Manual, the Emergency Department Standardized Resident Physician Training Manual, the Emergency Department Standard Operating Procedures and Diagnostic and Treatment Standards Manual, and other manuals. After many years of clinical practice, the current success rate for the rescue of patients with various emergency, critical, and severe conditions has reached 95.1%
