Main Campus Medical Imaging Department
The Department of Medical Imaging at the Headquarters of Qingdao Municipal Hospital is a medical imaging diagnostic center of considerable scale in Qingdao, with advanced equipment and technology and a rationally structured talent team. In 2008, it was recognized as a specialty department of Qingdao. The department has a strong technical workforce and currently has 36 medical staff members, including 2 doctors with doctoral degrees and 6 with master's degrees. There are 1 chief physician, 4 associate chief physicians, 9 attending physicians, and 2 resident physicians; 1 associate chief technologist, 5 supervising technologists, and 7 technologists; 3 supervising nurses and 2 nurses.
The academic level of the Headquarters Department of Medical Imaging is at the forefront in Qingdao. It is the lead unit of the Radiological Technology Branch of the Qingdao Medical Association, and the Qingdao Medical Imaging Quality Control Center is affiliated with the department. The department director, Wang Guohua, is a top-tier health professional and technical talent in Qingdao. He currently serves as Deputy Director of the Radiology Branch of the Shandong Medical Association, Deputy Director of the Qingdao Radiology Branch, and Director of the Office of the Qingdao Medical Imaging Quality Control Center. He also serves as an editorial board member or executive editorial board member of several journals, including the Journal of Medical Imaging, Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research, and Chinese Journal of Modern Clinical Medicine. Several other experts serve respectively as members of the Shandong Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Imaging, Deputy Director of the Qingdao Medical Association Molecular Imaging Society, and members of the Qingdao Radiology Branch and its study groups.
The department is divided into five major sections: the Routine X-ray Diagnostic Room, the Routine X-ray Technology Room, the CT Room, the MRI Room, and the Health Examination Center. The departments are both divided by function and collaborative, forming a comprehensive imaging diagnosis and treatment system.
The General Radiography Room currently performs DR radiography of all parts of the body, air-barium double-contrast examinations of the stomach and duodenum, air-barium double-contrast barium enema examinations, intravenous urography, organic iodine hysterosalpingography, and other examinations. In 2008, it began performing biliary drainage and phosphorus-32 implantation for internal radiotherapy of malignant obstructive jaundice, placing it at the forefront within the province.
The CT Room currently has one Philips Nano 128-slice CT scanner and one Siemens 16-slice spiral CT scanner. They offer short scanning times, rapid image acquisition, thin and variable scanning section thicknesses, high image quality, powerful post-processing functions, and low radiation doses. Scans can be performed on all parts of the human body, including the head and neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, and joints of the limbs, and are suitable for diagnosing tumors, inflammation, tuberculosis, trauma, congenital diseases, and other conditions. In addition to routine CT examinations of all body systems, the department also performs special examinations such as CT virtual endoscopy, multi-slice spiral CT enterography, CT angiographic imaging (including the coronary, pulmonary, cerebral, carotid, thoracoabdominal aortic, and lower-extremity arteries), and CT-guided interventional diagnosis and treatment. In particular, newly developed and applied CT technologies, including portal venous angiography, hilar hepatic CTA, rectal CT perfusion examinations, and cranial CT perfusion examinations, provide strong imaging support for precision clinical surgery, while also creating new entry points for scientific research.
The MRI Room has one GE 1.5T superconducting magnetic resonance scanner. This equipment offers fast scanning, high image quality, comprehensive functions, and the integration of morphological and functional diagnosis, markedly improving diagnostic accuracy. It is especially more sensitive for displaying early small lesions. In addition to MR examinations of all body regions, the department also performs special examinations such as breast MRI, magnetic resonance angiography, magnetic resonance hydrography, and brain functional imaging, including diffusion-weighted and perfusion-weighted imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. In recent years, it has cooperated with Qingdao Children's Hospital on a research project involving MRI diagnosis and spectroscopy analysis of pediatric cerebral palsy.
In recent years, the Headquarters Department of Medical Imaging has achieved abundant scientific research results: it has received 1 second prize for scientific and technological progress at the provincial/ministerial level, 1 second prize for scientific and technological progress from the Shandong Provincial Department of Health, 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes for Qingdao scientific and technological progress, and holds 6 national invention patents. It has undertaken 4 scientific research projects at the Qingdao and bureau levels. It has served as chief editor of 15 medical monographs, chief translator of 1 MRI monograph, deputy chief editor of 5 books, and contributing editor of more than 10 books. More than 90 papers have been published in national core professional journals, including 1 indexed by SCI. It provides instruction in imaging theory courses for Qingdao University Medical College and supervises undergraduate interns in imaging departments from Qingdao University Medical College, Taishan Medical College, Weifang Medical College, and Mudanjiang Medical College. Since 2003, it has officially become a training site for master's students in medical imaging from Qingdao University Medical College, Taishan Medical College, Weifang Medical College, and Nanjing Medical University. There are 2 master's supervisors, and many high-level master's students in imaging medicine have been trained. In recent years, 4 staff-member occasions have involved presentations at international conferences and national or provincial radiology congresses, and 5 staff-member occasions have involved chairing national or provincial radiological academic conferences. The department currently maintains friendly exchanges with the National Cancer Center of Japan and the Japanese Association of Radiological Technologists.
As an important medical technology department, the Department of Medical Imaging has always emphasized the comprehensive and sustained improvement of its medical, teaching, and research standards. Led by technological innovation, it continuously develops and applies various new technologies and projects, serves as a scout for clinical practice, and has solved the diagnostic problems of a large number of difficult and complex clinical cases. At the same time, it has comprehensively strengthened medical quality management and improved service standards, creating a favorable atmosphere characterized by commitment to learning, technology, innovation, and dedication. At present, the department has placed particular emphasis on and made achievements in the application and research of functional imaging. It has received 1 third prize for Qingdao scientific and technological progress and has obtained funding approval for 2 Qingdao-level projects. The department strives to develop, within 3~5 years, into a medical imaging diagnostic center with an overall advanced level within the province and certain projects reaching an advanced national level.
The Department of Radiology provides consultations and examinations 24 hours a day, offering patients high-quality services at any time.
