The Reproductive Medicine Department was established in April 2017. In December 2018, it obtained a trial-operation license for artificial insemination with the husband’s sperm, and in September 2022, it obtained a trial-operation license for in vitro fertilization (IVF-ET, in vitro fertilization–embryo transfer).
The department has 26 employees, including 11 clinical physicians and 8 PhD holders. The academic leader is Liu Haining, Doctor of Medicine (mentored by Academician Chen Zijiang), Chief Physician (senior professional rank, Level 3). Visiting scholar at the University of Hong Kong (Dr. Cheng Yu-tung Scholarship). Chair of the Reproductive Medicine Professional Committee of the Qingdao Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, member of the Shandong Society of Reproductive Medicine, and deputy head of its laboratory group. He has engaged in clinical and research work in infertility and assisted reproductive technology for 30 years and has extensive experience.
The human assisted reproductive technologies currently available include artificial insemination with the husband’s sperm, first- and second-generation IVF, and IVF-ET using donated sperm or eggs. The department also cooperates with Shanda Reproduction to carry out third-generation IVF technology.
The department’s innovative technologies include ultrasound-guided artificial insemination; iodine-glycerol perfusion for treating endometritis (improving pregnancy outcomes after recurrent implantation failure); Qingdao’s thinnest fiber-optic flexible hysteroscope (comfortable medical care requiring neither anesthesia nor hospitalization); intrauterine perfusion of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) (for treating a thin endometrium) and ovarian injection (for treating diminished ovarian reserve); and Qingdao’s first use of embryo glue, which significantly improves the embryo implantation rate.
