East Campus Vascular Surgery Department

The Department of Vascular Surgery of Qingdao Municipal Hospital was founded in 2007. It is one of the earliest hospitals in the Qingdao area to establish an independent vascular surgery department, and also one of the earliest large general hospitals in Shandong Province to carry out specialized vascular surgery diagnosis and treatment. The department has 20 registered beds and a medical and nursing team of 17, including 7 physicians, all of whom hold a master's degree or above. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art fully digital operating rooms, a DSA operating room and a hybrid operating room, and the department has now developed into a regional treatment center for vascular diseases in the Jiaodong area.

Its scope of diagnosis and treatment covers diseases of the arterial system (other than the cardiac and cerebral vessels), the venous system and the lymphatic system, such as lower-extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans, diabetic foot, aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, carotid artery stenosis and visceral artery stenosis, lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, lower-extremity varicose veins, lymphedema, vascular trauma, hemangioma, as well as the establishment and maintenance of hemodialysis access.

Minimally invasive treatment is a specialty of the department, and minimally invasive treatment has been achieved for most diseases, including: endovascular minimally invasive treatment of complex thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms and aortic dissection; stent-free minimally invasive techniques for lower-extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans; comprehensive limb salvage treatment for diabetic foot; thrombus debulking techniques for lower-extremity deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; and individualized minimally invasive treatment of lower-extremity varicose veins. In particular, in the comprehensive limb salvage treatment of lower-extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans and diabetic foot, the department employs advanced techniques and has introduced leading arterial plaque and thrombus removal devices, enabling recanalization of blood flow without stent implantation, practicing the advanced "intervention without implantation" concept in the global field of vascular surgery.

The department undertakes 1 project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and a number of Qingdao municipal research projects; it undertakes theoretical teaching for undergraduates and clinical teaching at Qingdao University and Rehabilitation University, and has trained 3 master's students.

The department has strong technical capabilities and enjoys high academic influence in the field of vascular surgery in China. It is the founding chair institution of the Vascular Surgery Branch of the Qingdao Medical Association, vice-chair institution of 9 provincial societies including the Vascular Surgery Branch of the Shandong Medical Doctor Association, and member institution of 5 national societies including the Youth Committee of the Vascular Surgery Professional Committee of the Fourth National Cardiovascular Disease Expert Committee.
