East Campus Medical Imaging Department
The East Hospital Department of Radiology is equipped with advanced equipment, has strong technical expertise, and maintains a well-structured professional team. It can perform imaging examinations and diagnoses for all organ systems. The department is currently the Forensic Imaging Identification Center of the Qingdao Municipal Public Security Bureau and has extensive experience in diagnosing small fractures of the head and face as well as fractures in other parts of the body. In 2017 and 2021, the department was rated a Key Discipline of Qingdao. Its principal research focus is the imaging assessment of metabolic syndrome. It has made major contributions in abdominal fat metabolism, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and other areas. Over the past three years, it has published more than 20 papers in Chinese scientific and technological core journals or higher-level publications, including 5 SCI papers.
The department currently has 28 physicians, 21 technologists, and 9 nurses. Twenty-six staff members have postgraduate or higher degrees, including 3 doctors. There are 2 chief physicians and 6 associate chief physicians. It has one high-end 3.0T MRI system each from GE and Philips, two 1.5T MRI systems, one GE Gemstone Spectral CT and one Revolution CT, three 64-slice spiral CT scanners, one 40-slice spiral CT scanner, one Shimadzu digital gastrointestinal fluoroscopy system, three digital radiography (DR) systems, and one mammography system.
The conventional X-ray rooms can perform routine examinations such as radiography of all parts of the body, upper gastrointestinal barium meal examinations, and barium enemas, as well as special examinations such as intravenous pyelography, sinus tract fistulography, and drainage-tube fistulography. The advanced digital mammography system can produce low-dose, high-definition breast X-ray images and can be used as an examination method for breast health screening. The CT room can scan all parts of the body, including the head and neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, joints of the extremities, and spine; it can also perform multiplanar reconstruction and three-dimensional imaging, displaying lesions from multiple perspectives and in multiple modes. CT angiography can also be performed for the coronary arteries, pulmonary arteries, head and neck arteries, thoracic and abdominal aorta, arteries of the lower limbs, and other regions. The MRI room can perform scans of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system in all regions, abdomen and pelvis, and breasts, and has introduced special examinations including magnetic resonance angiography, magnetic resonance hydrography, functional brain imaging, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
The department emphasizes professional development and sends key staff each year to high-level hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, and other locations for further training. In recent years, the department has achieved outstanding scientific research results, receiving 1 Second Prize for Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress, 2 Second Prizes for Municipal Scientific and Technological Progress, and 2 Third Prizes for Municipal Scientific and Technological Progress. It has 1 research project approved and currently underway by the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and 2 research projects approved and currently underway by the Qingdao Municipal Health Bureau. It has served as chief editor for 3 monographs on medical imaging and as deputy chief editor or contributing editor for more than 10 monographs, and has obtained 5 national patents. More than 100 professional papers have been published in national statistical-source (core) journals.
