Main Site – Blood Purification Center

The Blood Purification Center of the Main Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital was founded in 1979. Through nearly 40 years of discipline development, the Center has grown into a blood purification center with standardized diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, a rational professional echelon and exquisite technical skills that leads the development of regional dialysis.

The Blood Purification Center of the Main Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital is a national training base for blood purification in county-level hospitals, the Qingdao Blood Purification Quality Control Center and the Qingdao Hemodialysis Vascular Access Center. It has created a service brand with departmental characteristics — “Home of Kidney Friends” — and regularly organizes public welfare and service activities for hemodialysis patients and their families, enjoying a good image and reputation among dialysis patients in our city.

The Center is composed of more than 30 physicians, nurses and technical staff. The Director of the Center, Professor La Yan, is a renowned expert in nephrology in Shandong Province and Vice Chairman of the Qingdao Nephrology Committee; he has participated in the compilation of several books and numerous papers. The Head Nurse of the Center, Chen Jianmin, Deputy Chief Nurse, is Vice Chairwoman of the Shandong Provincial Blood Purification Nursing Professional Committee and Chairwoman of the Qingdao Blood Purification Nursing Professional Committee. The Center currently has 1 professor, 4 associate professors, 1 deputy chief nurse and 26 nurse supervisors. The team has a high level of academic qualifications, solid professional skills and excellent service.

The dialysis center has a rational layout and a comfortable environment. The Center has a total of 70 dialysis machine stations, 220 dialysis patients and 33,000 dialysis sessions per year, and is equipped with Weigao, German Fresenius and Japanese Toray dialysis machines as well as the most advanced double-stage reverse osmosis water treatment equipment. The Center has successively carried out treatment modalities such as hemodialysis, high-flux hemodialysis, hemodiafiltration, hemoperfusion, continuous blood purification, immunoadsorption, single plasma exchange and double plasma exchange, and implements combined individualized treatment for dialysis patients. As the leading unit of blood purification in Qingdao, for patients with chronic kidney disease on long-term dialysis complicated by hyperparathyroidism, it has carried out multidisciplinary parathyroid radiofrequency ablation, achieving good clinical results and solving the difficult problem that many patients with hyperparathyroidism in the island city were unable to receive surgical treatment. Good vascular access is the basic guarantee of dialysis quality and life. Under the leadership of Professor Sun Jian, the Center has successfully carried out a number of the first surgeries for vascular access in Qingdao, such as ultrasound-guided catheter-sheath interventional long-term catheter placement in the internal jugular vein, ultrasound-guided dilation of arteriovenous fistula stenosis and thrombectomy of arteriovenous fistula, and recanalization after superior vena cava occlusion with long-term catheter placement, solving the problem of difficult access in dialysis patients and providing strong technical support for primary blood purification units. Our Center holds the Qingdao Blood Purification Vascular Access Special Forum every year and has opened a blood purification vascular access clinic, establishing the leading position of the vascular access of the Main Campus Blood Purification Center in Qingdao.

The Blood Purification Center of the Main Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital is a national training base for blood purification in county-level hospitals, a training base for blood purification specialty nurses in Shandong Province and a training base for blood purification specialty nurses in Qingdao. It undertakes teaching tasks such as classroom teaching, clinical clerkship and standardized residency training, and has trained a large number of blood purification medical and nursing staff from various places within and outside the province. In recent years, the Center has repeatedly been awarded funding from the General Hospital Director's Fund, has published more than 60 papers, 5 books and a number of patents.

At present, our Center will strictly follow the new version of the hemodialysis SOP and further improve standardized hemodialysis treatment. Through multidisciplinary collaboration, we will deepen the development of technologies such as ultrasound-guided parathyroid radiofrequency ablation and vascular access. Always adhering to the concept of patient-centered care with high-quality nursing service at its core, and following the hospital purpose of “saving lives and healing the wounded, and dedicating ourselves to society”, we strive to create an internationally first-class blood purification center.
