Main Campus Cardiology Department 2
The Second Department of Cardiology is the Cardiac Electrophysiology Center of Qingdao Municipal Hospital and the only independent specialty department dedicated to cardiac pacing and electrophysiology in the Jiaodong region. In 2019, it was named a “China Atrial Fibrillation Center Demonstration Base.” The center implements unified management across its Main Campus and East Campus and currently has 72 beds, including 32 at the Main Campus and 40 at the East Campus.
In 2019, the center recruited Li Bingong as its director. He is a mentor in the pacing and electrophysiology specialty for interventional training under the National Health Commission, deputy chair of the Shandong Atrial Fibrillation Center Alliance, a young committee member of the Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology, and a committee member of the Shandong Society of Cardiovascular Diseases. The center currently has 42 medical and nursing staff, including 3 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, and 6 attending physicians; 8 hold doctoral degrees.
The center's technical strengths:
1. Comprehensive Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation
It is at a leading level in the region and is currently the only local China Atrial Fibrillation Center Demonstration Base. It specializes in radiofrequency ablation, cryoablation, left atrial appendage occlusion, and other techniques for atrial fibrillation, and has achieved a high level in the radical treatment of atrial fibrillation and the prevention of cerebral embolism caused by atrial fibrillation.
2. Radiofrequency Ablation of Arrhythmias
The center routinely performs radiofrequency ablation through endocardial and epicardial approaches for various arrhythmias, including supraventricular tachycardia, atrial tachycardia, atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contractions, and ventricular tachycardia. These procedures are minimally invasive and can achieve definitive treatment of arrhythmias.
3. Cardiac Pacing Techniques
The center was the first in the Qingdao region to perform leadless pacing (capsule pacing) and left bundle branch area pacing. Left bundle branch pacing has the advantage of more physiological pacing and avoids some of the adverse effects on the human body associated with conventional pacing techniques; it is currently a direction of pacing development. In addition, the center has achieved a high level in three-chamber pacing for the treatment of heart failure (CRT, CRTD), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), and implantable cardiac monitoring (Holter).
4. Closure Procedures for Patent Foramen Ovale and Other Congenital Heart Diseases
Some cases of refractory migraine and paradoxical cerebral embolism are caused by a patent foramen ovale. Closure of a patent foramen ovale can definitively treat such conditions. The center routinely performs closure procedures for congenital heart diseases such as atrial septal defects and ventricular septal defects.
5. Other Interventional Treatment Techniques
The center was the first in the Qingdao region to perform radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. It routinely performs right-heart catheterization for pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.
6. Noninvasive Diagnosis and Treatment of Heart Disease
The center performs noninvasive screening and diagnosis of arrhythmias, transesophageal pacing for the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias, comprehensive management after pacemaker implantation, and noninvasive assessment of coronary flow reserve. It has extensive experience in the noninvasive diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of coronary heart disease, hypertension, heart failure, and other diseases.
