Main Site, Area D – Neurology Department
The Department of Neurology in D Area of the Main Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital is a comprehensive neurology department integrating outpatient care, inpatient care, and rehabilitation. Over the years, it has devoted itself to the diagnosis and treatment of common and difficult neurological diseases, including cerebrovascular disease, neuroimmunological diseases, sleep disorders, Parkinson’s disease, cognitive disorders, dizziness, and headache. With distinctive subspecialty strengths, solid technical expertise, and a full-cycle service philosophy, it has become a neurology specialty trusted by residents in Qingdao and the surrounding areas.
The department’s scale and staffing are aligned with regional diagnostic and treatment needs. It has 28 operational beds and currently has 19 medical and nursing staff members, including 2 with senior professional titles and 5 with intermediate professional titles. Every member of the nursing team holds specialist qualification certification. Key staff members have successively undertaken further training at leading neurology centers in China, including those in Shanghai and Beijing, forming a talent structure with well-connected senior, mid-career, and young cohorts and balanced subspecialty expertise, providing a solid guarantee for high-quality diagnostic and treatment services.
In developing its diagnostic and treatment system, the department has built differentiated strengths around six major subspecialties, achieving full-chain coverage from prevention to rehabilitation:
The cerebrovascular disease subspecialty has established a full-lifecycle management system of “prevention, screening, diagnosis, rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation.” It regularly conducts community health education, advances the prevention and treatment of stroke to an earlier stage, and continues to extend its professional influence to surrounding districts and cities;
The sleep disorders subspecialty addresses common problems such as chronic insomnia in adults and sleep-disordered breathing. It innovatively adopts a multidisciplinary collaboration model of “mind–body treatment,” integrating pharmacotherapy, physical therapy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine interventions to tailor individualized sleep rehabilitation plans for each patient. The rate of improvement in patients’ sleep quality exceeds 85%;
The cognitive disorders subspecialty closely responds to the needs of an aging society. It has established a whole-process management mechanism of early screening, early assessment, and early intervention, and has accumulated extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, delaying disease progression and reducing the family caregiving burden;
The neuroimmunological disease subspecialty has established standardized diagnostic and treatment pathways for complex diseases such as myasthenia gravis and neuromyelitis optica. During the acute phase, it routinely performs core procedures including steroid pulse therapy, immunoglobulin therapy, and plasma exchange. Its treatment success rate has reached an advanced level among hospitals of the same tier in China;
The vertigo and headache subspecialty has established a precision differential diagnosis system that can rapidly distinguish central from peripheral vertigo, identify high-risk cerebrovascular disease at an early stage, and recognize dizziness symptoms caused by rare etiologies. It has established standardized diagnostic and treatment pathways, substantially reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
The development of the discipline has always centered on patient needs. In the field of cerebrovascular disease, the department has connected emergency care with rehabilitation treatment, achieving integrated services from admission through rehabilitation. Its diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders has overcome the limitations of single-drug intervention by introducing multidimensional approaches such as psychological regulation and lifestyle guidance. Its diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders focuses on the difficulty of early diagnosis; in collaboration with communities, it conducts cognitive screening among older adults, bringing the intervention window forward. All technologies are benchmarked against first-class standards in China.
Talent development is the core driving force for the department’s sustainable growth. Key physicians are selected and sent, as needed, to leading neurology centers in China for subspecialty training, specifically addressing technical gaps. All staff regularly participate in academic exchanges at various levels and keep abreast of developments at the forefront of the discipline. At the same time, using subspecialty development as the main driver, the department defines development goals for each direction, ensuring the balanced and sustainable development of all subspecialties.
From the treatment of acute and critical illnesses to the long-term management of chronic diseases, and from technological innovation to humanistic care, the Department of Neurology in D Area of the Main Campus of Qingdao Municipal Hospital has always taken “Safeguarding brain health and improving quality of life” as its mission. With expertise and compassion, it strengthens the regional defense against neurological diseases and has become a trustworthy “guardian of brain health” close to the people.
