II. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment and Featured Medical Technologies
As a clinical secondary discipline, general practice is a comprehensive medical specialty that integrates relevant content from clinical medicine, preventive medicine, rehabilitation medicine, and the humanities and social sciences. Its purpose is to be patient-centered, emphasizing overall coordination and comprehensive health care. It has unique professional characteristics and effectively makes up for the deficiencies of medical specialization. After more than ten years of development and construction, the Department of General Practice of Qilu Hospital now has an independent team of general practitioners, including 2 chief physicians, 3 associate chief physicians, 7 attending physicians, and 5 resident physicians. The main conditions treated include patients whose health problems or diseases cannot be assigned to a specific specialty; the continuous diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive management of common and frequently occurring chronic diseases and patients with multimorbidity; and preventive medical and health-care services. At the same time, adhering to the departmental orientation of “general medical care as the foundation and general practice teaching as the focus,” the department implements the State Council’s requirement to “accelerate the training of a large number of qualified general practitioners” and conducts the education and training of general practitioners in accordance with general practice thinking, thereby improving the hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system and safeguarding and enhancing the health of the people.
