Pathology
The discipline of pathology at Shandong University was established in 1925 in the Medical Faculty of Cheeloo University by Professor Hou Baozhang, a pioneer of pathology in China and a renowned pathologist. The rigorous physician-training model of Cheeloo University, centered on the principle that great physicians must be sincere, has profoundly influenced the subsequent development of the pathology discipline. In 1952, the Medical College of Cheeloo University, Shandong Provincial Medical College, and East China Bethune Medical College were reorganized and merged to form Shandong Medical College, and the pathology teaching and research groups of the three original schools were merged into the Department of Pathology of Shandong Medical College (Shandong Medical University). In 2000, Shandong University, Shandong Polytechnic University, and Shandong Medical University were merged to establish Shandong University. The pathology discipline of Shandong University comprises the Department of Pathology of Qilu Hospital and the Department of Pathology of Shandong University. In 2018, to better implement the requirements of the National Health Commission regarding the promotion of the development of pathology diagnostic centers, the Department of Pathology of Qilu Hospital (Department of Pathology) took the lead in bringing together the academic resources in pathology from the other teaching hospitals of Shandong University to jointly establish the “Shandong University Pathology Center.”
