Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Since its establishment in 1958, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking University Third Hospital (formerly Beijing Medical University Third Hospital), under the leadership of senior obstetrics and gynecology experts such as Zhang Lizhu, has undergone decades of continuous development and has reached an advanced national level in the diagnosis and treatment of assisted reproduction, gynecologic reproductive endocrinology, malignant tumors, perinatal care and high-risk pregnancy, and diseases related to the perimenopausal period, as well as in family planning, with certain areas reaching an internationally advanced level. In teaching and scientific research, our department has likewise achieved outstanding results, and in 1986 it was granted doctoral degree-granting status and has now trained more than 30 doctoral students; in 1989 and 1995, respectively, it became a key discipline of the State Education Commission and a key discipline in the first batch of key disciplines under the 211 Project; many individuals have received the title of Beijing Outstanding Teacher; it has received multiple Science and Technology Progress Awards at the national, ministerial and Beijing municipal levels; it has published several hundred papers in academic journals in China and abroad. At present, our department has developed into a comprehensive discipline integrating clinical care, teaching and scientific research in reproductive endocrinology, gynecology, obstetrics and family planning, with nearly 90 beds, an annual outpatient volume of more than 160,000, 30 chief physicians and deputy chief physicians (including professors and associate professors), and a total medical and nursing staff of more than 150 (including nearly 20 people with doctoral degrees and 8 with master's degrees).
