Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital is a comprehensive pharmaceutical technical department integrating drug procurement, supply, dispensing, management, clinical pharmacy, rational drug use, clinical drug trials, research and teaching. It is now a national training base for clinical pharmacists (shortage specialists), a national pharmacist post-training base, a national demonstration base for rational drug use, a national drug clinical-trial institution, a pilot unit for pharmacists stationed in Shenzhen departments, and a clinical-pharmacy teaching base of Guangdong Medical University. It also serves as the chair unit for pharmaceutical-affairs management of the Shenzhen Pharmaceutical Association and plays an important academic leadership and demonstration role in the region. The department has more than 100 pharmaceutical professionals and has long provided precision pharmaceutical services including rational clinical drug use, therapeutic-drug monitoring and pharmacogenomic testing. Relying on the hospital’s strong disciplinary platform, it has deeply advanced medical-pharmaceutical collaboration and built an innovative “clinical pharmacist stationed in departments” model. Clinical pharmacists work long-term in oncology, neurology, critical care and other leading clinical departments, participating deeply in optimizing drug regimens, consultations for difficult and severe cases, and whole-course medication monitoring. In oncology, the department pioneered a new stationed-pharmacist service model combining medical-pharmaceutical collaboration with lightweight AI tools, integrating key pharmacists from the sterile-compounding center, outpatient pharmacy and inpatient pharmacy into a cross-department support team to provide seamless pharmaceutical care throughout the cancer-care cycle. For smart-pharmacy development, it follows a “software-and-hardware integration” philosophy. The intelligent supply chain precisely controls the entire process from drug procurement, warehousing and dispensing to use; intelligent dispensing tables, checking machines, drug-transfer robots, smart ward medicine cabinets and small liquid-preparation robots create a closed-loop medication-management system. AI is deeply embedded in every pharmaceutical-service process, and the closed-loop drug-management workflow has received more than 1,000 domestic and overseas experts and scholars for visits and study, becoming a benchmark case for smart-hospital construction. For narcotic and psychotropic drug management, the department pioneered information-technology-based intelligent closed-loop management, enabling traceability from procurement acceptance and storage, prescription dispensing and clinical use to recovery of empty ampoules, ensuring traceable batch numbers, searchable flows and controllable risks. As one of the lead units, it drafted the Shenzhen Expert Consensus on Narcotic and Psychotropic Drugs, establishing an industry standard for standardized regional management. It also advocates and practices green pharmacy. By optimizing inventory, reducing expired-drug waste and promoting paperless work, it applies green, low-carbon and sustainable principles throughout procurement, supply, dispensing and use, integrating economy, safety and environmental protection in pharmaceutical services. Looking ahead, the Pharmacy Department will continue relying on Peking University’s academic resources and Shenzhen’s policy advantages to deepen smart-pharmacy development and medical-pharmaceutical innovation, safeguard medication safety, promote rational use and contribute pharmaceutical strength to Healthy China.
