Pain Medicine
Peking University Shenzhen Hospital established its pain clinic in 2017. It is one of the earlier hospitals in China to establish a pain clinic, with more than 21,000 outpatient visits annually. In 2018, it established the pain ward, with more than 1400 discharged patients annually. At present, the Department of Pain has 30 beds, outpatient consultation rooms (2 rooms), and treatment rooms (2 rooms); 10 full-time physicians, including 3 chief and deputy chief physicians, 1 master's supervisor, of whom 4 hold doctoral degrees and 4 hold master's degrees; and 16 nurses, including 1 deputy chief nurse, 9 supervising nurses, 3 nurses, and 3 assistant nurses.
The clinical diagnosis and treatment projects are as follows: 1. Pathological neuralgia (postherpetic neuralgia, trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, intercostal neuralgia, diabetic neuralgia, complex regional pain syndrome, etc.); 2. Spinal-origin pain (cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, cervicogenic headache, etc.); 3. Myofascial and soft-tissue pain (periarthritis of the shoulder, lumbar and back muscle strain, tennis elbow, tenosynovitis, etc.); 4. Head and facial pain (migraine, tension headache, cluster headache, temporomandibular arthritis, etc.); 5. Joint pain (knee osteoarthritis, hip arthritis, sacroiliitis, ankle arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, etc.); 6. Cancer pain; 7. Generalized pain (osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, somatization disorder, etc.); 8. Non-painful diseases (allergic rhinitis, facial neuritis, hemifacial spasm, intractable hiccups, sleep disorders, autonomic dysfunction, etc.).
The Department of Pain uses image-guided minimally invasive interventional surgery as its core technology for treating various chronic pain conditions, with the technical characteristics of precision, safety, and visualization. It currently performs various nerve radiofrequency procedures, endoscopic transforaminal discectomy, radiofrequency plasma ablation of intervertebral discs, spinal cord stimulator implantation, intrathecal pump implantation, radiofrequency neurolysis of the sympathetic nerves, radiofrequency procedures of the trigeminal semilunar ganglion, microballoon compression, and many other advanced surgeries and technologies in China. It also performs ultrasound-guided injection treatment of various joints and muscle tissues, medical ozone autohemotherapy, platelet-rich plasma treatment, acupuncture treatment of myofascial trigger points, acupotomy, internal-heat acupuncture, floating acupuncture, buccal acupuncture, nerve blocks, extracorporeal shock-wave therapy, and other treatments.
The department is equipped with advanced large-scale pain diagnosis and treatment equipment, including a DSA operating room, a transforaminal endoscopic surgery system, radiofrequency therapy devices, a low-temperature plasma multifunctional surgical system, multiple ultrasound systems, the Italian PANAGI shock-wave therapy system, the German KAT ozone generator, an internal-heat acupuncture therapy device, and the Japanese shortwave therapy device.
