Transfusion Medicine
The Blood Transfusion Department of Peking University Shenzhen Hospital is a clinical medical-technical department integrating medical care, teaching and research. It is responsible for blood storage, testing, distribution and management; provides technical guidance and standardized management of clinical blood use; resolves difficult clinical transfusion problems; supports transfusion-treatment programs; and promotes modern transfusion knowledge. The department has 8 transfusion-medicine professionals in a well-structured technical team: 3 with senior titles, 3 intermediate and 2 junior. Its work area exceeds 600 square meters and includes a laboratory, blood-issue room, blood-storage room, autologous blood-collection room, demonstration classroom and teaching-and-research room. Equipment includes specialized refrigerators for various blood-storage purposes, a fully automated blood-typing and cross-matching system, a constant-temperature platelet shaking storage cabinet, blood-bank centrifuges, a plasma thawer, a TEG thromboelastography analyzer and a cold-chain temperature-control system. It supplies blood products including red-cell suspensions, washed red cells, frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, apheresis platelets and frozen red cells of rare blood types. Current services include microcolumn agglutination ABO/RhD typing, crossmatching, irregular-antibody screening and thromboelastography, as well as stored autologous transfusion, irradiated-blood therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange. The department’s transfusion-compatibility testing is precise; for nearly 10 years it has received full marks in the National Health Commission Clinical Laboratory Center’s external quality-assessment activities.
