Outpatient Department No. 1
The Outpatient Department of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology is a medium-sized specialized stomatological medical institution and a branch of the Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology.
Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology was founded in 1941. Due to development needs, the hospital moved in 1985 to No. 38 Baishiqiao Road, Haidian District, referred to as the "Main Hospital," while the former site was renamed the "Branch Hospital." In 2000, the "Branch Hospital" was renamed the "Outpatient Department." The Outpatient Department currently has 7,200 square meters of medical space, 123 dental chairs, and more than 360 staff. It is organized into six specialty departments — endodontics (dental pulp disease), periodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and oral and maxillofacial surgery — plus two comprehensive care departments, the Special Care Department and the Comprehensive Department. Under the unified management of the Main Hospital, the Outpatient Department carries out medical care, teaching, research, and prevention work in an orderly and comprehensive manner.
The Outpatient Department has reached nationally leading levels in aesthetic restoration, all-ceramic restoration, CAD/CAM restoration, implant restoration, microscopic root canal treatment, general-anesthesia dental treatment for children, painless tooth extraction, ECG-monitored tooth extraction, and digital radiological diagnosis; it was the first in the country to implement the "one patient, one unit" medical model, effectively controlling cross-infection in hospitals, and is a model unit for oral cross-infection control recognized by the health administration (former National Health and Family Planning Commission).
The Outpatient Department also undertakes a variety of teaching tasks: theoretical and clinical teaching for Peking University stomatology undergraduates, clinical teaching of postgraduates, clinical teaching for Beijing's standardized residency training, clinical teaching for postgraduate training of overseas physicians, and the training of advanced physicians from across the country. Each year it also holds more than ten national-level and society-level continuing education courses. Over the years, the Outpatient Department has selected successive groups of young and middle-aged professional technical staff with strong research capabilities and development potential for study abroad. More than 30 staff members have received support from the National Natural Science Foundation, the Beijing Natural Science Foundation (Youth Program), and university- and hospital-level projects. The Outpatient Department also undertakes the tasks of providing science popularization, preventive healthcare, and other services for community residents.
The Outpatient Department will persistently carry forward the spirit of Peking University Stomatology — "excellent medicine for the benefit of the world" — and strive to provide broader patient groups with higher-quality and more attentive medical services.
