Fourth Outpatient Department

Peking University Hospital of Stomatology

The Fourth Outpatient Department of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology was founded in 2012 in Beijing's central business district. Its clinical area exceeds 1,000 m². It specializes in dental implants and offers orthodontics, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, periodontics and dentoalveolar surgery, with multidisciplinary, integrated care. The department is a vice-chair unit of the Chinese Stomatological Association implantology committee and chair-elect unit of the Beijing implantology committee; several dentists serve on national or Beijing committees. It runs national continuing education and implant training courses and reports training more than 200 implant dentists from institutions across China. It regularly hosts national implant conferences, has authored over ten implantology books and led several Chinese implant treatment consensus documents. Routine services include immediate implants, complex bone grafting, implants for edentulous jaws and aesthetic implant restoration. The department also explores minimally invasive and fully digital implant restoration and reports early Chinese use of socket preservation, socket-shield immediate implantation and short implants, as well as consensus on classification of lateral maxillary sinus floor elevation and maxillary incisor anatomy and implant planning. Results have appeared in international and Chinese specialist journals. The clinic describes its implant systems as having superhydrophilic surfaces, faster and stronger osseointegration and more stable connections. It reports over 10,000 implant restoration cases and a retention rate above 99%. The team includes experts in implantology, endodontics and prosthodontics. All dentists come from or graduated from the main Peking University dental hospital; 85% hold doctorates. The department reports three National Natural Science Foundation grants, two university grants and over ten hospital grants, two hospital outstanding department and outstanding department director awards, national case competition first prizes and university or hospital awards for physicians and medical work. It is a clinical teaching base for Peking University dental master's students. Nurses have undertaken national implant nursing training and lectures, live or rebroadcast surgical teaching, contributed to four books and received the hospital's first prize for quality nursing services. The hospital describes a team spanning senior, mid-career and younger practitioners.
