Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – Laser Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Clinic
The Laser Plastic and Cosmetic Clinic originated from the Maxillofacial Surgery Laser Unit, established in 1985, and was one of the first hospitals in China to apply lasers in dentistry. It participated in the national key research project “PDT Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors,” undertaken by the Beijing Sixth and Seventh Five-Year Plan collaborative groups, and received the Ministry of Health’s Second-Class Award and Beijing’s First-Class Award. In 1987, it received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China for the study of the mechanism by which Nd:YAG lasers selectively destroy tumors. Drawing on extensive basic experimental research and accumulated clinical experience, the department compiled “Practical Laser Medicine” and “Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations of the Head and Neck.” Department members have served for multiple terms as deputy chairpersons and members of the Laser Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, members of the Laser Branch of the Chinese Stomatological Association, and members of the Laser Medicine Branch of the Beijing Medical Association, among other positions.
The scope of diagnosis and treatment includes:
I. Treatment of benign oral lesions
Laser treatment of benign skin and mucosal lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region, such as papillomas, mucoceles, fibrous hyperplasia, leukoplakia, oral ulcers, epulis, pigmented nevi, warts, and senile lentigines.
II. Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of oral vascular and lymphatic disorders
Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of vascular malformations, lymphatic malformations, and infantile hemangiomas. Treatment methods include oral medication, local injection, laser therapy, and surgery. An appropriate method is selected according to the type of lesion and the patient’s age. Vascular malformations include microvenous malformations, venous malformations, arterial malformations, and mixed malformations. Depending on the clinical condition, laser therapy, local drug injection, embolization, surgery, or a combination of two or more methods may be selected. Lymphatic malformations are classified as macrocystic, microcystic, or mixed (combined vascular and lymphatic malformations); treatment may include local drug injection, laser therapy, and surgery.
III. Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery for oral and maxillofacial deformities: reconstruction for congenital deformities of bone and soft tissue, deformities acquired as a result of disease or trauma, wrinkle reduction, rhinoplasty, double-eyelid surgery, liposuction, and facial contouring (zygomatic bones and mandibular angles), among other procedures.
IV. Diagnosis and treatment of oral malignant tumors
Diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the oral and maxillofacial region, including the development of surgical, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy treatment plans.
