Pediatric Dentistry Department
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry of the Second Outpatient Department of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology was formally established in 2005. At present, the department has 10 physicians specializing in pediatric dentistry, all of whom graduated from leading medical schools in China and hold doctoral or master’s degrees; there are 6 nurses, including 1 nurse-in-charge, 3 nurse practitioners, and 4 bachelor’s degree holders. In strict accordance with the diagnostic and treatment standards for diseases of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the main hospital, we provide a variety of treatment services, including prevention and treatment of dental caries in children, treatment of pulp diseases, treatment of dental trauma, and occlusal guidance, among other treatment services, relieving the conditions of many pediatric patients and achieving good treatment outcomes and social benefits.
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry serves children and adolescents aged 0-16 years. Oral diseases in children at different age stages have different characteristics, and their diagnostic and treatment methods differ from those for adults. We adhere to the concept of “Happy Medical Care,” focusing on communication with pediatric patients so that they can receive dental treatment happily and develop good oral healthcare awareness. The main treatment services of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry include: 1. Prevention and treatment of dental caries, including pit and fissure sealing, fluoride application for caries prevention, fillings for caries in primary and permanent teeth, etc. 2. Root canal treatment for pulpal and periapical diseases of primary and permanent teeth, apexification in immature permanent teeth, and pulp preservation and pulp regeneration treatment in immature permanent teeth. 3. Periodontal treatment, including scaling, irrigation, and medication application for diseases such as plaque-induced gingivitis and eruption gingivitis, among other treatments. 4. Dental trauma, including fixation, pulp treatment, and early restoration of tooth form for dental trauma in primary teeth and immature permanent teeth. 5. Occlusal guidance, including space maintenance for retained primary teeth and premature loss of primary molars, and early orthodontic treatment of reverse occlusion (underbite). 6. Oral treatment under sedation with oral medication for uncooperative children aged 2-6 years.
Because children, owing to the particularity of their dietary habits, hygiene habits, and growth and development, are a population with a high incidence of oral diseases, it is therefore recommended that they maintain good dietary and hygiene habits and undergo a comprehensive oral examination every 3-6 months.
