Prosthodontics

The Department of Prosthodontics has a long history and has successively produced such leading figures in Chinese stomatology as Mao Xiejun, Zhong Zhiqi, Zhu Xitao, Wang Jiequan, Wang Yuying and other leading figures. This discipline is one of the first disciplines authorized by the State Council to confer doctoral and master's degrees, and is an important component of Peking University's National Key Discipline of Stomatology (first-level discipline). In 2011, the Department of Prosthodontics was approved, on the strength of its excellent performance, as a National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Project, and its medical, teaching and research standards are at the leading level nationwide, playing an important leading role in China's prosthodontics field. In recent years, it has successively received the Beijing Science and Technology Award, the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Award, the Chinese Stomatological Science and Technology Award, the Beijing Education and Teaching Achievement Award, the Medical and Pharmaceutical Graduate Education Achievement Award of the Chinese Society for Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, high-quality courses and other achievements. Among its physicians, over 80% hold doctoral degrees, and more than half have studied or undertaken further training in Europe, the United States or Japan for more than one year, and it has more than 10 talents at various levels, including Chang Jiang Scholars, National Hundred-Thousand-Ten-Thousand Talents (National Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions), recipients of Special Government Allowances from the State Council, New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, Capital Science and Technology Leading Talents and Beijing Science and Technology Rising Stars; it has more than ten in-service doctoral supervisors. The Department of Prosthodontics Teaching and Research has several professors who serve as chairpersons, deputy chairpersons and in other positions on the Prosthodontics Committee, Special Committee of Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, Special Committee of Oral Aesthetics, Special Committee of Computerized Stomatology and Professional Committee of Prosthodontic Technology of the Chinese Stomatological Association, and many other physicians hold positions of committee member or above in international, Asian, national and Beijing academic organizations. Many physicians serve as editorial board members of international and domestic academic journals, many serve as chief or deputy chief editors of national-level planned textbooks and Beijing high-quality textbooks, and many serve as experts for medical accident appraisal for medical associations at the Beijing level and above. In 2018, the Department of Prosthodontics, jointly with the Department of Implantology and the Department of Periodontology, was approved as an ITI International Scholar Training Center, and in 2019 it began accepting ITI international scholars. The establishment, construction and development of the training center have provided another high-level platform for in-depth cooperation and exchanges between the faculty and students of our hospital and the international stomatology community. The prosthodontic methods and materials used by the Department of Prosthodontics are all in step with the world's advanced standards. Various all-ceramic restorations, precious-metal porcelain restorations, modified he-type complete dentures, digital restorative technology (CAD/CAM), pure-titanium dentures, precision attachments, magnetic attachments and implant-supported dentures were all pioneered in our department and are at the leading level nationwide. The Department of Prosthodontics, in collaboration with the Digital Center, actively and independently develops digital oral prosthodontic technologies and materials, contributing to the innovative development of national oral prosthodontic technologies and materials. The Department of Prosthodontics has always adhered to the principles of putting people first and putting patients at the center, sincerely providing comprehensive, high-quality services to patients at home and abroad, and helping patients restore a healthy oral cavity and a confident smile.
