Transfusion Medicine
Clinical transfusion work at Peking University People's Hospital has a long history. As early as the 1950s, literature from Beijing Central People's Hospital on “Reactions to and Treatment of Blood Transfusion” can be found. In the 1960s, with Academician Lu Daopei's development of treatment for hematological diseases and the success of the first bone marrow transplant, clinical transfusion work was further advanced. In 1990, following the opening of the Xizhimen Campus of People's Hospital, our hospital was the first in China to establish an independent Department of Transfusion; it has now developed into a diagnostic and therapeutic Department of Transfusion Medicine. In 2014, the Department of Transfusion successfully passed the inspection by the health administrative authorities and obtained an additional item on its medical institution practice license for clinical transfusion; in 2015, following approval by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning, it was awarded the title of Beijing Clinical Transfusion Professional Training Base. In 2018, the Department of Transfusion opened a specialized outpatient clinic for transfusion-related diseases, becoming one of the first hospitals nationwide to open a professional transfusion outpatient clinic. Currently, it has extensive clinical experience in transfusion for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, massive transfusion, emergency transfusion, difficult blood matching, autologous blood collection, and blood therapy, and enjoys a high academic standing in China's transfusion field.
