Pharmacy Department (Pharmaceutical Clinic)

The Department of Pharmacy at Peking University International Hospital has a mature and advanced information-based, intelligent drug-management system that integrates drug management, dispensing, medical-order review, and other functions in a distinctive unified model. The department has introduced an intelligent medication-cabinet management system and deployed it in all pharmacies, clinical departments, and operating rooms. Each cabinet is managed by a designated pharmacist, thereby ensuring the drug supply in a scientific and effective manner and making clinical medication available more promptly and conveniently.

The Department of Pharmacy currently has 44 pharmacists, including 1 with a senior professional title and 28 with intermediate professional titles; 1 holds a doctoral degree and 6 hold master’s degrees. At present, our department has 5 full-time clinical pharmacists responsible for the 5 major specialty areas of the Neurology Center; the Heart Center; anti-infective therapy; geriatrics; and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as 1 clinical pharmacist each for nutrition, pain, hematology and lymphoma, and antineoplastic therapy. They participate in pharmaceutical care for ward patients, clinical consultations, training in rational drug use, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and other work, making unremitting efforts to ensure patients’ safe and rational medication use.

In teaching, the Department of Pharmacy actively undertakes the clinical pharmacology course for the Clinical Medicine program at Peking University Health Science Center. For several consecutive years, it has organized national seminars on the latest developments in smart pharmacies and big-data development. Each year, it selects pharmacists to participate in specialized clinical pharmacist training, continually strengthening the pharmacist team and adding highly qualified new talent to the clinical pharmacist workforce.
