Gastroenterology

As a key discipline of Peking University International Hospital, the Department of Gastroenterology currently has 2 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, and 2 supervisors of master’s students, and has developed comprehensively across clinical practice, teaching, and research. It serves as a training site for master’s students at the Peking University Health Science Center and a standardized training base for specialist physicians at the Peking University Health Science Center. It has been designated a member institution of the National Collaborative Network for Early Gastrointestinal Cancer, the Capital Specialized Training Base for Digestive Endoscopy, and the lead institution of the Changping District Medical Consortium.

The Department of Gastroenterology comprises inpatient wards, outpatient services, and an endoscopy center. It has established strategic partnerships with the Optical Medical Center of Jichi Medical University Hospital in Japan and with the gastroenterology departments of other internationally leading hospitals, and continues to deepen exchanges and cooperation in medical technology, talent development, research, and teaching. The department has a well-developed staffing structure and has gradually formed a team with a high level of professional competence. It undertakes clinical, endoscopic, and other related teaching duties for interns and physicians receiving further training at the Peking University Health Science Center.

Patient management in the gastroenterology ward follows a system in which the primary attending physician assumes responsibility, together with a responsibility-based nursing system, providing rigorous, high-quality diagnosis and treatment. The outpatient service offers a special-needs clinic, expert clinics, disease-specific clinics, and an MDT clinic for difficult and complex diseases, meeting the diagnostic and treatment needs of patients with common diseases and difficult, severe conditions. The Gastroenterology Endoscopy Center has a room for gastrointestinal endoscopic examinations and treatment, an ERCP radiology procedure room, a gastrointestinal motility room, and a capsule endoscopy room, providing comprehensive endoscopic diagnosis and minimally invasive treatment for gastrointestinal diseases.
