Pathology
The Department of Pathology of Peking University International Hospital is one of the earliest-established and most important platform departments of Peking University International Hospital. Since its establishment in 2014, after more than 10 years of continuous development and progress, it has now become a modern pathology department of considerable scale, with the volume of pathological examinations increasing year by year; the number of specimens referred from external institutions exceeded 40,000 cases in both 2024 and 2025. In addition to completing the examination of pathological specimens submitted by all clinical departments of the hospital, the department also undertakes consultations on difficult pathology cases from other hospitals and can receive remote consultations from affiliated hospitals of the Peking University Healthcare Group through an internet platform.
Within a scientifically and advancedly designed space of nearly 2,000 square meters, the department is equipped with modern large-scale routine pathology equipment; a cytology laboratory incorporating liquid-based thin-layer technology; an automated immunohistochemistry laboratory capable of performing staining for hundreds of antibodies and tumor companion diagnostic testing; a fluorescence in situ hybridization laboratory; a BSL2 molecular pathology laboratory; and an advanced digital slide-scanning system that supports remote pathology and the development of artificial intelligence-assisted pathological diagnostic technologies.
