Ophthalmology
Since its establishment, the Department of Ophthalmology at Peking University International Hospital has consistently relied on top-tier medical resources and expert teams to steadily build a professional diagnostic and treatment system. It has now developed into a comprehensive ophthalmology department centered on the diagnosis and treatment of fundus diseases, with vitreoretinal surgery as its distinctive strength, establishing a professional benchmark in the diagnosis and treatment of fundus diseases in northern China.
The department has a well-structured and highly skilled medical team, with a full range of subspecialties, including refractive cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus and amblyopia, refractive surgery and optometry, orbital diseases, and oculoplastic surgery. The team includes 11 physicians with senior professional titles and 16 physicians holding doctoral degrees. The proportion of highly educated and senior-titled professionals ranks among the highest. The department is also staffed by 17 experienced specialized nurses and 6 professional technical personnel, forming an efficient service model featuring coordinated collaboration among medical, nursing, and technical staff.
In terms of diagnostic and treatment resources, the department relies on the hospital’s coordinated concept of “one hospital, one bed pool” and is one of the few departments in the hospital with an independent inpatient ward. It has 40 open beds, fully meeting patients’ healthcare needs. In the field of clinical surgery, the department’s core strength lies in complex fundus surgery. Approximately 70% of its patients come from northern provinces and cities such as Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Hebei, demonstrating significant outreach capacity and regional influence.
The department has always placed patients at the center. Relying on its top-tier expert team, advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies, and comprehensive service system, it continuously provides high-quality, personalized ophthalmic medical services for patients with eye diseases, and is committed to becoming a core platform for ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment, scientific research, and teaching in the region.
