As a key platform department of the hospital, the Department of Anesthesiology and Operating Rooms is pursuing comprehensive development in medical care, teaching, scientific research, and departmental culture. Building on the strengths of Peking University Health Science Center, it continues to advance its efforts to provide high-quality medical services through innovation, meet patients’ growing demand for diverse medical services, and establish comfortable medical care practices aligned with international standards. The Anesthesiology and Surgical Division adheres to the service philosophy of “safety, professionalism, high standards, efficiency, and compassion,” and strives for continuous improvement based on the departmental culture of “aspiration, benevolence, rigor, and professionalism.” Standardized physician training, a harmonious working atmosphere, firm professional confidence, and stronger professional capabilities are our pursuits; accepting every surgery in which the benefits outweigh the risks is our responsibility. The Anesthesiology and Surgical Division is a team that gives patients peace of mind and has the capability to ensure the safety of surgical patients, a team committed to making patients’ medical experience more comfortable, and a team determined to be indomitable in its professional field.

The Department of Anesthesiology is a comprehensive discipline encompassing clinical anesthesia (anesthesia for patients in the operating room and anesthesia for day surgery), rescue of critically ill and severely ill patients, sedation and analgesia outside the operating room, emergency resuscitation, comfortable medical care, and pain diagnosis and treatment. Under the leadership of Director Yao Lan, it has developed into a modern clinical department characterized by anesthesia for critically ill patients and comfortable diagnosis and treatment, with advanced equipment, sophisticated techniques, and innovative management concepts. While ensuring the provision of anesthesia for routine surgeries, the Department of Anesthesiology also operates an anesthesia assessment clinic and 10 sites for comfortable diagnosis and treatment outside the operating room, serving as a hub and an important support platform for the safe and efficient operation of the hospital. It possesses advanced anesthesia and monitoring technologies representing high international and domestic standards, including visualization technologies, difficult-airway management tools, transesophageal echocardiography, hemodynamic monitoring, and brain-function monitoring. These provide strong, safe, and efficient support for the smooth performance of anesthesia for surgeries in all departments and for the provision of comfortable medical care.

The operating rooms comprise the Central Operating Room, Interventional Operating Room, and Day Surgery Operating Room, with a total of 46 operating rooms; among them are 33 integrated operating rooms, 2 3.0T MRI operating rooms with a one-to-two configuration, 1 intraoperative radiotherapy operating room, and 2 hybrid operating rooms. Modern surgical equipment and supporting facilities, including intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging, navigation, and the DSA hybrid system, greatly ensure the requirements and safety of surgery for patients with various complex conditions. The operating rooms implement modernized and information-based management. High-definition recording and digital teaching broadcasts can be conducted during surgery, providing more real-time and accurate information exchange throughout the surgical process and improving teaching standards and the real-time delivery of various teaching activities. To better support the performance of high-level, high-precision, and cutting-edge surgeries and better serve surgical patients, the hospital has continuously strengthened continuing education for its medical, nursing, and technical personnel, while successively introducing advanced medical equipment and instruments from China and abroad. The operating-room nursing team is a highly qualified and energetic team that has undergone professional technical training. All personnel remain patient-centered, strengthen service awareness, deepen professional expertise, fully implement nursing responsibilities, and strive to provide patients with high-quality, safe, and warm medical services.
