The Department of Cardiology of Peking University International Hospital is a modern center for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, integrating clinical diagnosis and treatment, academic research, talent development, and discipline development. Since its establishment, the department has consistently upheld the Peking University medical ethos of “virtue and commitment to the right path, excellence through dedication,” placing patients at the center and technology at the forefront, while continually advancing the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Under the leadership of Professor Nie Shaoping, a renowned cardiovascular disease expert and Deputy Director of Peking University International Hospital, and Professor Liu Xiaohui, Director of the Department of Cardiology, the department has entered a period of rapid development and has grown into a core pillar department of the hospital, with its clinical capacity expanding rapidly and its technical capabilities steadily improving.

Committed to the goal of developing the discipline to high standards and with high quality, the Chest Pain Center has successfully passed authoritative accreditation and established an efficient, standardized fast-track pathway for the emergency treatment of acute chest pain. The department provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for all types of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure, and congenital heart disease. Its cardiac interventional diagnostic and treatment techniques are continually improving. The department is proficient in advanced procedures such as intervention for complex coronary artery lesions, radiofrequency ablation for arrhythmias, interventional treatment of structural heart disease, and renal denervation (RDN) for resistant hypertension, and has provided precise, minimally invasive, and safe treatment options for tens of thousands of patients.

Focusing on patients’ needs and clinical challenges, the department concentrates on cutting-edge technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, with emphasis on developing a series of distinctive subspecialties or disease-specific centers.
