Radiotherapy
The Radiotherapy Department of Peking University International Hospital is one of the core departments of the hospital’s Cancer Center. Relying on Peking University Health Science Center, it maintains a rigorous, pragmatic and innovative work attitude, continuously absorbs advanced concepts and experience from China and abroad, optimizes work processes, and serves patients wholeheartedly. Its key project is a comprehensive, integrated tumor treatment center and clinical research and teaching base, and it is one of the four medical centers that Peking University International Hospital is prioritizing for development.
The Radiotherapy Department has more than 60 medical, nursing and technical staff members, with a well-balanced talent structure and strong technical capability. Of these, there are 11 radiation oncologists, all with at least a master’s degree, including 1 postdoctoral fellow, 4 doctors with doctoral degrees and 6 with master’s degrees; 1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physicians, 3 attending physicians and 4 resident physicians. There are 4 medical physicists and 9 therapists (technologists).
The Radiotherapy Department has more than 100 beds. The radiotherapy area covers 4,300 square meters and contains 9 treatment bunkers, 3 simulation/localization rooms and 1 particle operating room. It has a US Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, a Swedish Elekta Synergy linear accelerator, a US Varian 3D afterloading therapy unit, an NRL-003 radiofrequency hyperthermia system, a US GE large-bore CT simulator, a German Siemens MRI simulator, and the world’s newest ZAP-X Mars-ark radiosurgery robot. It is also equipped with a complete set of radiotherapy dose measurement and verification tools, including a three-dimensional water phantom, a three-dimensional real-time online dose verification system, accelerator beam verification instruments and a respiratory motion phantom. A complete and stringent quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) system has been established, enabling precise delivery of advanced radiotherapy techniques including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), and brachytherapy (afterloading and interstitial radiotherapy). World-leading radiotherapy equipment such as the CyberKnife and boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) system will subsequently be put into clinical use.

Quality assurance is the lifeline of the Radiotherapy Department. The department has always placed stringent quality assurance and quality management first, establishing a strict and systematic quality assurance system and formulating detailed, rigorous procedures for radiotherapy positioning, treatment-plan design, radiotherapy dose review, positioning verification and treatment verification. Radiotherapy and positioning equipment undergo daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections. Equipment safety, dose accuracy and mechanical precision have all reached advanced international levels, ensuring treatment safety and accuracy.
In 2025, the Radiotherapy Department delivered radiotherapy to more than 1,300 patients. With the introduction of advanced equipment and the implementation of new technologies, it will certainly serve more patients. The department remains patient-centered, relying on superb radiotherapy technology and high-quality service to wholeheartedly safeguard patients’ health.
