Gastrointestinal Oncology
Medical Oncology for Digestive System Tumors is a flagship discipline of Peking University Cancer Hospital. For many years, it has been committed to precision drug therapy based on genotyping for malignant tumors of the digestive system, including gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and neuroendocrine tumors; multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment; clinical research and translational research on new anticancer drugs and technologies. It ranks among the leading institutions in its field in China, has reached an internationally advanced level, and is internationally leading in the development of new anticancer drugs and innovative technologies such as cellular therapy. Upholding the concept of precision treatment, the Medical Oncology for Digestive System Tumors team evaluates patients’ tumor biology and prognostic factors by integrating disease characteristics, genotyping, and molecular features, while working closely with MDT and research teams. It challenges traditional treatment concepts and combines the latest scientific developments in China and abroad to integrate precision treatment, multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment, and translational research scientifically, developing an individualized precision treatment plan for every patient, improving treatment efficacy, creating opportunities for cure, and improving patient survival. The team is a formulator and principal drafter of national standards and professional guidelines for malignant tumors of the digestive system, including the National Health Commission’s Standards for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer, the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastric Cancer, the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer, and the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors. At the same time, the team has published dozens of important academic studies in leading international journals, including Lancet, JAMA, Nature, and Nature Medicine, and its research findings have been incorporated into international professional guidelines. The team is also committed to developing new anticancer drugs and technologies. As the lead institution, it has initiated the largest number of Phase I studies of new anticancer drugs in China, organized international and domestic multicenter clinical studies, and created new models of immunotherapy for gastric and esophageal cancer as well as a new paradigm for perioperative treatment of gastric cancer. In particular, in the field of gene therapy, it was among the first in China to conduct innovative studies of CAR-T, TCR-T, oncolytic viruses, and personalized mRNA tumor vaccines. It has achieved breakthrough progress internationally in the field of tumor cellular therapy. The Medical Oncology for Digestive System Tumors team is willing to work together with everyone to actively confront and ultimately defeat cancer!
