Operating Room

The operating room of our hospital is a surgical clinical platform department that provides surgical treatment to patients and is an important strategic support for Peking University Cancer Hospital in building an internationally oriented specialized oncology hospital. It currently has 24 operating rooms and performs more than 20,000 operations for various malignant tumors each year, including gastric cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, retroperitoneal tumors, ovarian cancer, pancreatic cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, bone and soft-tissue tumors, head and neck tumors, and various other common and rare malignant tumors. Relying on the operating room’s advanced equipment and the operating room nursing team’s many years of experience, the operating room nursing team can skillfully assist with all routine and complex oncological surgeries. The team has extensive clinical experience in using 2D, 3D, fluorescence endoscopy, ultrasonic scalpels, ERBE, and other technologies; it also has extensive experience in the coordinated use of equipment such as surgical robots, intraoperative ultrasound, autologous blood reinfusion, hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy, thoracic magnetic navigation, heart-lung machines, and other equipment. The operating room management team, composed of the department director and head nurse, has advanced management concepts and scientific management methods; it has achieved full-process digital and intelligent management, particularly in surgical scheduling, instrument counting, transfers and handovers, staff scheduling, and other areas, and has also implemented scientific and meticulous management in human resources management, quality control, instrument and equipment management, consumables management, infection control management, and other areas, safeguarding the surgical safety of oncology patients. The operating room nursing team is divided into 7 professional groups, led by experienced key nursing staff who have obtained certification as operating room specialist nurses from both the Chinese Nursing Association and the Beijing Nursing Association; they lead the nursing team in continuously refining its technical skills, striving for advancement, and comprehensively keeping pace with the development of oncological surgery. The operating room team’s teaching and management are distinctive, with a well-developed teaching system and a strong faculty; centered on improving job competencies and emphasizing individualized instruction, it focuses on cultivating nurses’ humanistic qualities while standardizing technical procedures and surgical assistance. In the future, the operating room team will continue to uphold the philosophy of scientific management and provide surgical patients with professional medical and nursing services throughout the entire process.
