Radiotherapy
The Department of Radiation Oncology of Peking University Cancer Hospital (abbreviated as the Department of Radiation Oncology) was established in 1976. It is divided into four subgroups: head and neck, thoracic, abdominal, and breast and gynecologic oncology. It can perform various advanced radiotherapy techniques and various comprehensive antitumor treatments, and is particularly at the domestic and international forefront in precision radiotherapy combined with drug therapy for tumors throughout the body; stereotactic radiotherapy for liver cancer, lung cancer, oligometastatic tumors, and others; organ function preservation; and research in microbiomics, radiomics, and other fields. In recent years, more than 5,000 patients have received radiotherapy annually, and the annual number of outpatient visits has exceeded 65,000. The department currently has a total of 156 physicians, physicists, technologists, nurses, and scientific researchers, including 11 chief physicians, 9 deputy chief physicians, 3 senior engineers at the full professor level, 3 senior engineers, 2 deputy chief technologists, 1 deputy chief nurse, and 1 long-term appointed associate professor. With the successive installation of China’s first VMAT and True Beam systems, followed by EDGE, Vital Beam, Ethos, and other radiotherapy systems, its 7 existing linear accelerators can achieve submillimeter treatment accuracy and implement adaptive planning, among other capabilities. Its overall equipment and technology have reached an internationally advanced level, providing support for the comprehensive implementation of precision radiotherapy. As a national training base for standardized residency training in radiation oncology and a standardized training base for radiation oncology specialists of the Health Science Center of Peking University, the department undertakes courses such as “Fundamentals of Radiation Oncology” at the Health Science Center of Peking University. It has cumulatively trained more than 60 master’s and doctoral students, graduated 9 postdoctoral fellows, and receives more than 60 visiting trainees and visiting scholars annually. It consistently organizes national-level offline and online continuing education programs, such as the “Tumor Radiotherapy Standards and Target Delineation Study Course,” as well as academic conferences such as the ASTRO post-meeting, delivering more than 1,000 high-level radiotherapy professionals to institutions nationwide while continuing to provide continuing education. The department continuously promotes humanistic development to provide patients with a high-quality, efficient, and comfortable medical experience.
