Gastrointestinal Tumor Center Ward 2
The Second Ward of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Center was established in October 2014. It has an excellent team for the diagnosis, treatment, and research of gastrointestinal tumors, specializing in surgery and comprehensive treatment for advanced gastrointestinal tumors, function-preserving surgery for early gastric cancer, sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer, and more. The main diseases treated include gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and other rare gastrointestinal tumors. Based on multidisciplinary discussions, the department develops and implements the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment plan for each patient. Under the direct leadership of Professor Ji Jiafu, the department follows the fine traditions of Peking University Cancer Hospital, pursues excellence, and continues to improve. It has achieved gratifying results in clinical care, scientific research, teaching, and other areas and, while maintaining a steady and rigorous work style, has entered a fast track of rapid development. Staff structure: 1. Staffing: 4 chief physicians, 6 deputy chief physicians, 8 attending physicians, 3 resident physicians, and 21 nursing staff. 2. Main department leaders: The director of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Center is Professor Ji Jiafu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a renowned Chinese oncology expert; the department director is Bu Zhaode, and the head nurse is Zhao Min. The department’s distinctive features include minimally invasive surgery, precision surgery, complex and difficult surgery, function-preserving surgery, rapid recovery, and whole-course patient management. An overview of the clinical, scientific research, and teaching work is as follows: 1. Clinical work: The department currently has nearly 13,000 outpatient visits and admits nearly 1,000 inpatients annually. Department director Bu Zhaode serves as chairman of the Colorectal Disease Branch of the Chinese Medical Promotion Association and chairman of the Gastric Cancer Professional Committee of the Beijing Anti-Cancer Association. On the basis of standardized treatment, the department promotes individualized treatment and precision medicine for gastrointestinal tumors. Starting with clinical research, it designs and leads high-level multicenter clinical studies addressing unresolved clinical problems in gastrointestinal tumors. 2. Scientific research: The department focuses on basic and clinical translational research in gastrointestinal tumors. Its research includes the immune atlas and microenvironment characterization of gastric cancer, gastric cancer immunophenotyping, the characteristics of lymph-node metastasis in early gastric cancer and construction of predictive models, prediction of the efficacy of gastric cancer immunotherapy, and immunotherapy research for advanced and unresectable gastric cancer, among other areas. The research covers gastrointestinal tumors at all stages, ranging from preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radical surgery, and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy to conversion therapy. The research spans single-cell molecular signaling and histological levels through patients’ clinical parameters and prognosis, providing comprehensive insight into the occurrence, progression, and metastasis patterns of gastrointestinal tumors and identifying research findings that can be translated into clinical applications. The ultimate goal of the research is to use existing technical methods to solve clinical problems and translate research findings into clinical applications so that patients can benefit. 3. Teaching work: The department admits and trains doctoral and master’s students. It regularly organizes continuing education programs at the national and district/county levels to promote standardized surgical diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. It accepts physicians from all over the country for further training, improving the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of gastrointestinal oncology specialists nationwide. The Second Ward of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Center takes clinical work as its core, translational research as its focus, and molecular subtyping and individualized treatment of gastrointestinal tumors as its goal. It works solidly and serves patients wholeheartedly.
