Endoscopy Centre

The Endoscopy Center of Peking University Cancer Hospital is one of the earliest independent endoscopy departments established in China's oncology-specialized hospitals. After more than 30 years of development, the Endoscopy Center — as a platform department affiliated with the General Surgery system, providing full-process endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic services to the entire hospital — has formed an oncology-specialized endoscopy center featuring digestive and respiratory endoscopic interventional diagnosis and treatment. Its services cover: precise endoscopic screening for early gastrointestinal tumors; endoscopic resection of early GI tumors (ESD, combined laparoscopic-endoscopic surgery, and other ESD-derived techniques); puncture biopsy of deep tissue and organ lesions (EUS-FNA, EBUS-TBNA, EBUS-GS-TBLB); treatment of benign and malignant biliary obstruction (ERCP, EUS-BD, photodynamic ablation of biliary tumors via cholangioscopy); management of gastrointestinal obstruction (stent placement, ileus tube, stricture dilation, gastrostomy, feeding tube placement/fistula drainage); management of airway obstruction (stent placement, ablation recanalization); rigid bronchoscopy; double-balloon enteroscopy; peroral cholangioscopy; capsule endoscopy, etc., with many of these techniques in a leading position internationally and domestically. By the end of 2024, the Endoscopy Center had 14 physicians, 21 nurses, 1 medical technician, 1 medical secretary, 1 postdoctoral researcher, and 1 support staff member; among them, 4 chief physicians, 2 associate chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, and 3 residents; 2 master's supervisors. Members' professional society appointments include: national and youth committee members of the Digestive Endoscopy Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; vice chairman of the Tumor Endoscopy Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association; vice chairman of the CSCO Photodynamic Therapy Committee and member of the GIST Committee; committee member of the Digestive Endoscopy Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; standing and youth committee members of the Digestive Endoscopy Branch of the Beijing Medical Association, etc. Team members have repeatedly delivered keynote reports, surgical demonstrations, and poster presentations at professional academic conferences at home and abroad. In 2025, the Endoscopy Center became one of the first cooperation units of the National Health Commission's full-time training program for digestive endoscopy physicians; it also serves as a Digestive Endoscopy Training Center of the Beijing Medical Association's Digestive Endoscopy Branch and a member of the National Early Gastrointestinal Cancer Prevention and Treatment Center Alliance. Over the past 5 years, it has trained more than 60 advanced-study physicians/trainees from across the country, and undertakes Beijing's "Chronic Disease Health Management · Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis Training" program, having trained more than 240 trainees in total. Over the past 10 years, the Center has undertaken multiple projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Key R&D Program, and the Capital Health Development Special Program, as well as more than 30 research projects/programs from the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Beijing Municipal Hospital Administration, and the Organization Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, with cumulative research funding of 4.94 million yuan. It has published more than 40 SCI papers with a cumulative impact factor of over 170, and more than 10 papers in Peking University core journals. The Center has organized and participated in the formulation of multiple domestic endoscopic diagnosis and treatment guidelines/consensus. Since 2024, the Endoscopy Center has undertaken the construction of a national-level regional medical center, with department members stationed at the Inner Mongolia and Yunnan campuses, providing long-term fixed assistance to local endoscopy services, earning wide recognition from other departments of the branch hospital and high praise from local patients.
