Medical Ethics Committee
The Medical Ethics Committee of Peking University Cancer Hospital was established in 1999. Currently, the chair is Li Jie; the vice chairs are Zhao Jun and Sheng Xinan; the committee has 48 members in total, and the office has 7 staff members. “Ensuring quality, expediting project approval, and enhancing professional and industry influence” is the direction that our hospital’s Ethics Committee is committed to exploring and actively pursuing. To meet the needs of the innovative development of antitumor drugs, since 2019, our center has held three ethics review meetings each month, while optimizing all procedures and comprehensively improving the efficiency of ethics review, including: conducting ethics review at an earlier stage, mutual recognition of ethics review, and digital management across the entire ethics review process. In recent years, the department has published more than 20 ethics-related papers, obtained approval for 4 ethics-related research projects, participated in drafting multiple books on oncology ethics review and review guidelines edited by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, and participated in compiling China’s first textbook, “Clinical Research Ethics.” It has actively explored ethics review in the fields of new medical technologies and cell therapy, accumulating extensive experience. In 2020, our center also took the lead in completing the “Guidelines for Ethics Review of Clinical Research on CAR-T Cell Immunotherapy,” which was issued and promoted by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission and has had a certain influence in the industry.
