Transfusion Medicine
Department of Transfusion Medicine
The Department of Transfusion Medicine became an independent department after separating from the Blood Bank of the Laboratory Department in 2014. In the early stage of its establishment, standardized departmental development was our primary task. We strictly implement technical specifications and verification procedures to ensure 24-hour clinical emergency transfusion and therapeutic blood use. After several years of effort, the Department of Transfusion Medicine undertakes the management of clinical blood use throughout the hospital and cooperates with and guides the rational, safe, and effective use of blood in clinical practice. It is responsible for the technical implementation and guidance of clinical blood use, ensuring the implementation of measures for blood supply, blood storage, blood crossmatching, and scientific and rational blood use; formulates annual and monthly blood-use plans, evaluates clinical blood use, and has gradually established a comprehensive and practical contingency plan and implementation process for adverse transfusion reactions, emergency blood use, and compatible blood use for rare blood groups. The department strictly carries out quality control. Over the past 5 years, its results have ranked among the best in the Ministry of Health's transfusion-related external quality assessments and in the external quality assessment programs conducted by the Shanghai Clinical Laboratory Center.
The department is equipped with the NEO blood group analysis system, Erytra fully automated blood crossmatching and blood group analyzer, LBY-NJ4A fully automated platelet aggregometer, SYSMEX CS5100 fully automated coagulation analyzer, CFMSTM LEPU-8800 thromboelastograph, KJX-IB frozen plasma thawing cabinet, constant-temperature platelet agitator storage cabinet, and specialized blood storage equipment, among others. These can provide clinical departments with accurate, safe, and reliable blood products and test reports in a timely manner.
The Department of Transfusion Medicine has 10 staff members, with a complete staffing complement, including 1 senior professional title holder, 3 intermediate professional title holders, and 6 junior professional title holders. It is a high-quality service team with a sound organizational structure and an increasingly rational talent structure.
To comprehensively improve transfusion safety, quality, and service standards, all members of the Department of Transfusion Medicine have always adhered to the principles of putting patients first, quality first, and service first. Its quality policy is to provide clinical departments with accurate, safe, reliable, and timely blood products, effectively ensuring that clinical blood use is safe, effective, and convenient.
