Pharmacy Department

The Department of Pharmacy of the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School (Nanjing Stomatological Hospital) was established in April 2012, having been formed from the former Pharmacy Department. It comprises the Drug Procurement Group, Drug Maintenance Group, Drug Dispensing Group, and Clinical Pharmacy Office, and has a drug warehouse, central pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, and emergency pharmacy, with a drug storage area of 75 square meters. The Department of Pharmacy currently has 14 professional and technical staff members, including 4 with senior professional titles, 7 with intermediate professional titles, and 5 with master's degrees. In 2011, it was awarded the honorary title of "Standardized Pharmacy of Tertiary Medical Institutions in Jiangsu Province" by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Health and the Jiangsu Provincial Food and Drug Administration. Hospital pharmacy is an important component of medical care and an important guarantee for improving the quality of medical care and ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines by patients. The department uses the "Provisions on the Administration of Pharmaceutical Affairs in Medical Institutions", "Measures for the Administration of Prescriptions", "Measures for the Reporting and Monitoring of Adverse Drug Reactions", "Guiding Principles for the Clinical Application of Antibacterial Drugs", "Regulations on the Administration of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Drugs", and other laws and regulations as its work standards and guides, establishes and improves rules and regulations, and has developed a complete, operational, and measurable quality management and quality control system; it undertakes hospital pharmaceutical affairs management, the procurement, storage, and dispensing of medicines, and pharmaceutical services; it carries out prescription and medical order review, antimicrobial management, medication consultation services, adverse drug reaction ﹙ADR﹚ monitoring, bacterial drug resistance monitoring, and evaluation of the rationality of clinical medication use; it has a full-time clinical pharmacist specializing in anti-infective therapy, who works at the clinical frontline to carry out clinical pharmacy services and provide individualized pharmacotherapy regimens. The department dispenses more than 250,000 outpatient and emergency prescriptions annually, reports nearly 20 adverse drug reaction ﹙ADR﹚ cases annually, and regularly compiles "Stomatological Hospital Drug Information". In recent years, it has published 14 professional papers in various journals, led and completed 3 provincial- and municipal-level scientific research projects, assisted clinical departments in completing 12 drug clinical trials, and undertaken pharmacy teaching for seven-year and three-year postgraduate students in the stomatology program of Nanjing University Medical School. The Department of Pharmacy remains patient-centered, takes the quality of pharmaceutical services as its core, strengthens medication safety management, fosters team spirit, emphasizes the development of a professional echelon, and continuously improves and innovates to enhance the department's competitiveness.
