Nuclear Medicine
1. General information: The Department of Nuclear Medicine was established in 2006 and is distinguished by its PET/CT positron-emission imaging of tumors and other organs. To date, examinations have been completed for nearly 30,000 patients, earning high praise and trust from patients and peers. Isotopic radionuclide therapy, including 131I treatment for hyperthyroidism and 89Sr treatment for metastatic bone lesions, has also become another distinctive feature of the department. 2. Staff team: There are currently 7 medical and nursing staff members, including 3 physicians, 1 chief or deputy chief physician, 3 attending physicians, 1 person with a doctoral degree, 1 person with a master's degree, and 1 master's supervisor. The current department director, Tang Jun, is Vice Chair of the Nuclear Education Special Committee of the Jiangsu Nuclear Society, a Standing Committee Member of the Nuclear Medicine Branch of the Jiangsu Medical Association, a Standing Committee Member of the Nuclear Medicine Expert Committee of the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, a Standing Committee Member of the Nuclear Medicine Special Committee of the Chinese Association of Non-Public Medical Institutions, a member of the Functional Imaging Group of the Nuclear Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a corresponding editorial board member and English editor/reviewer of the Chinese Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, a Publicity Committee Member of the Nuclear Medicine Branch of the China Biopharmaceutical Industry Chain Innovation and Translation Alliance, and a member of the Nuclear Medicine Special Committee of the Shanghai Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. Under the leadership of the department director, diagnostic and treatment services have continued to expand, PET/CT imaging enjoys a high reputation within the province, and the level of radionuclide therapy has improved year by year. 3. Equipment configuration: The department is equipped with 1 Siemens PET-CT (Biograph mCTx128), 1 Siemens SPECT/CT (Intevo excel), and 1 GE dual-energy X-ray bone densitometer, among other equipment. 4. Professional specialties: (1) PET/CT positron-emission imaging: In the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, PET/CT can be used for tumor staging and restaging, evaluation of treatment efficacy, localization of primary malignant tumors, assessment of tumor recurrence and metastasis, and differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors, among other applications. In cardiovascular diseases, it can assess myocardial viability, provide a necessary basis for further treatment after myocardial infarction, and also evaluate the efficacy of treatment after myocardial infarction. In neurological diseases, PET/CT can be used for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various types of dementia, the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, and the diagnosis and treatment-effect monitoring of epilepsy, among other applications. For health examinations of high-risk populations, especially people with a family history of tumors, abnormal tumor markers, or a long-term suboptimal health status, as well as others with related needs, PET/CT also has a unique role to play. (2) Isotopic radionuclide therapy, including 131I treatment for hyperthyroidism and hyperfunctioning thyroid adenoma and 89Sr treatment for metastatic bone lesions, is highly welcomed and recognized by numerous patients. (3) Diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis: For osteoporosis caused by various factors, once confirmed by bone mineral density measurement, nuclear medicine combined with conventional medications can be used for treatment. 5. Research and teaching: The department undertakes internships for undergraduate students and standardized-training instruction for resident physicians from Soochow University, Jiangsu University, Suzhou Vocational Health Technical College, and other institutions, while also conducting related clinical research using its existing advanced equipment.
