1. Basic information: In March 2018, the Department of Anesthesiology became one of the collaborating units of the “Painless Childbirth China Tour.” In 2019, it was designated a key specialty in Suzhou, and in 2026, it was designated a construction unit for a key clinical specialty in Jiangsu Province. 2. Bed capacity: The department currently operates 14 operating rooms, including 4 Class 100 clean operating rooms, 9 Class 1,000 operating rooms, and 1 integrated hybrid operating room. More than 20,000 anesthesia services are provided annually, including nearly 10,000 in-operating-room anesthetics and more than 14,000 out-of-operating-room anesthetics. 3. Staffing: The department currently has 57 medical and nursing staff members, including 22 anesthesiologists. The team includes 2 chief physicians and 9 deputy chief physicians; more than 50% hold master's degrees. 4. Equipment: The department is equipped with a variety of professional equipment and instruments, including multifunctional Dräger anesthesia machines and monitors, TEG (thromboelastography analyzers), CCO (cardiac output monitors), Radiometer blood gas analyzers, nerve stimulators, neuromuscular monitors, electrocardiographs, ECG monitors/defibrillators, target-controlled infusion (TCI) pumps, fiberoptic bronchoscopes, blood and infusion warmers, 3M surface warming systems, video laryngoscopes, Valleylab electrosurgical units, cardiopulmonary bypass machines, various endoscopes, Johnson & Johnson ultrasonic scalpels, multiple microscopes, and cleaning and disinfection equipment. 5. Clinical specialties: 1) Basic and clinical research on perioperative cerebrovascular and cardiovascular protection. The department can provide anesthesia for off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. 2) The department can provide anesthesia for thoracic procedures such as radical esophagectomy and radical lung cancer surgery, and has extensive clinical experience in isolation of both lungs. 3) The department can provide anesthesia for conventional and minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures. It has extensive clinical experience in anesthetic techniques that promote postoperative recovery of brain function, including intraoperative cerebral protection, intraoperative awakening, and neurological function monitoring. 4) The department specializes in the anesthetic management of pediatric and elderly patients and has extensive experience in the rescue of critically ill patients with difficult conditions, including anesthesia for emergency surgery in various departments, severe trauma, and various types of severe shock. 5) In early 2018, the department collaborated with a team of U.S. experts from the “Painless Childbirth China Tour” to implement a family-centered delivery-room model featuring independent delivery rooms for women in labor, family accompaniment during childbirth, and multimodal painless childbirth. The rate of labor analgesia is relatively high. 6. Research and teaching: The department has undertaken 10 research projects, including 1 provincial-level project and 5 municipal-level projects; in 2020, it received the Second Prize for the Introduction of New Technologies in Suzhou. It has published more than 80 papers, including 23 SCI papers, and contributed to 6 books.
