Otolaryngology
1. Basic Information: The Department of Otolaryngology of Suzhou Kowloon Hospital was established in 2006. After more than ten years of development, it has become a modern specialized medical center integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research. Relying on advanced equipment, a professional medical team, and extensive clinical experience, the department is committed to providing patients with high-quality, personalized diagnostic and treatment services, and has developed distinctive technical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of common, difficult, and functional diseases of the ear, nose, and throat.
2. Bed Capacity: The department has 25 open beds, more than 50,000 outpatient visits annually, and more than 2,000 surgical procedures annually, of which Grade III and Grade IV high-difficulty surgeries account for more than 60%. Its comprehensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities have a certain advantage within the region.
3. Medical Team: The department currently has 6 experts with senior professional titles, including 2 chief physicians and 4 deputy chief physicians; 4 attending physicians and supervising technicians; and 1 resident physician. The team has extensive experience in otologic microsurgery, endoscopic endonasal skull-base surgery, and function-preserving surgery for pharyngeal and laryngeal tumors.
4. Equipment: The department is equipped with a Danish integrated hearing testing center, a full-function otoacoustic emission analyzer, an auditory evoked potential system, a high-definition sinus endoscope, a Medtronic otolaryngology powered system (nasal drill/skull-base drill), an operating microscope, and a U.S. Jiesi low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation treatment system, among other equipment. The electroacoustic audiometry room meets national standards and can perform newborn hearing screening and precise hearing-aid fitting, providing protection for newborn hearing health.
5. Clinical Distinctions: (1) Minimally Invasive Nasal Techniques: The department performs three-line tension-reduction septoplasty for deviated nasal septum, pterygoid canal nerve transection and low-temperature plasma ablation for allergic rhinitis, endoscopic multi-sinus opening surgery, and resection of benign and malignant nasal cavity tumors, among other procedures.
(2) Minimally Invasive Rhinology and Skull-Base Surgery: The department is equipped with a Danish integrated hearing testing center, a full-function otoacoustic emission analyzer, an auditory evoked potential system, a high-definition sinus endoscope, a Medtronic otolaryngology powered system (nasal drill/skull-base drill), an operating microscope, and a U.S. Jiesi low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation treatment system, among other equipment. The electroacoustic audiometry room meets national standards and can perform newborn hearing screening and precise hearing-aid fitting. The department performs cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea repair, with precise localization of the fistula and reinforcement with biomaterials; anterior skull-base tumor resection, such as resection of esthesioneuroblastomas and meningiomas; and optic nerve decompression, an emergency intervention for traumatic optic neuropathy.
(3) Sinonasal and Orbital Surgery: The department performs endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy, which leaves no facial scar; orbital decompression for proptosis caused by thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy; optic canal decompression for sudden visual deterioration caused by trauma or inflammation; transnasal resection of intraorbital tumors, such as cavernous hemangiomas and schwannomas; and reduction of traumatic orbital wall fractures.
(4) Otologic Microsurgery and Hearing Reconstruction: The department performs tympanoplasty, including individualized repair of tympanic membrane perforations using underlay, overlay, or sandwich techniques; canal-wall-up or canal-wall-down mastoidectomy combined with ossicular chain reconstruction; and noninvasive correction of congenital auricular deformities in newborns.
(5) Otoendoscopic Techniques: The department performs otoendoscopic tympanoplasty with individualized repair, otoendoscopic ossicular chain reconstruction, and resection of external auditory canal cholesteatomas, among other procedures.
(6) Comprehensive Treatment of Pharyngeal and Laryngeal Diseases and Sleep-Disordered Breathing: The department performs treatment for pediatric snoring, including tonsil and adenoid ablation; low-temperature plasma-assisted UPPP and tongue-base ablation for snoring; function-preserving surgery for laryngeal cancer, such as CHEP and the Aslan procedure; and microsurgical treatment of vocal fold lesions under suspension laryngoscopy.
(7) Specialized Treatment for Vertigo and Tinnitus: The department performs manual repositioning treatment for otolithiasis. A specialized vertigo outpatient clinic is available every Monday afternoon.
The department adheres to the philosophy of “precision medicine and humanistic care,” develops personalized treatment plans for patients through a multidisciplinary team (MDT) model, and has established a comprehensive follow-up system for long-term management programs, including newborn hearing screening, desensitization treatment for allergic rhinitis, and hearing-aid fitting.
